what is an 'early' 3.4 996?
Discussion
Personally I think the LM is a bit fussy for the 996. Wonderful wheel, Just at odds with the shape. Hard to beat the 4S style wheel on the '6 IMO.
Saying that I do like Fusch style wheels also!
With regards cleaning split wheels. Forget it. Having had a set of BBS RS. You don't own them, They own you!

Fuchs are nice too Saying that I do like Fusch style wheels also!
Not a fan of the LM's on any car & the turbo twists I'm really not a fan of.
GT3 style on a 996, possibly 5 spoke Carreras or fuchs of course!

The 17’s would look better with some spacers... too tucked in IMO.
Could you run a higher profile rear tyre?
Well that is standard 255 40 17 on the rear. I could go maybe 235 or 245 45 17. They will both be a bit taller. There isn't much available wider than 255. I do have a pair of spacers somewhere. Do you think I should try them on the front or the back?Could you run a higher profile rear tyre?
I’d want the outside of the tyre to sit as flush with the body as possible... particularly at the rear, but the fronts look really ticked - like a milder version of how some people run beetle front wheels. You could easily run 15mm front and rear... probably more, but I’m not sure how sensible spacers are beyond 15mm.
Personally, I like the tyre to sit flush, and vertically, be as close to the edge of the arch as possible looks wise. You have the ride height.
I have 15mm spacers on a 10x18 et65, and it’s still not enough IMO. Could do with being another 10mm further out.
I’m considering a 265/40/18 or 275 or 285/35/18 when my rears need changing. Both are a profile up and would give a bit more side wall as well as getting the tyre closer to the arch.

I've just bought some OEM Porsche 5mm spacers (as fitted to the GT3 from the factory) for my car as the LM's the front wheels will sit 12.4mm closer to the inside, and sit 0.3mm further outwards toward the arch, and I'd like to move the (ET 56) rim a little further away from the strut. The rear wheels will sit 3.7mm closer to the inside, and 21.7mm further outwards toward the arch - which I'm also a little worried about, I might get the arches rolled (again, the GT3 had the arches rolled from the factory).
I think so, problem with that is brake disc diameter. I'm likely to end up with 362/32 front and 360/28 rear fully floating discs with CP9040/CP9202 callipers. Why's that a problem? I guess it's not, but I'd prefer to have been able to use the Radi-Cal callipers, but they require a minimum disc size of 380mm, and that simply won't fit under an 18" wheel.

I guess it sounds better when they are standard fit 5mm spacers on the GT3 rather than the same standard fitment on a 550 Boxster Chris Stott said:
295 is a bit much for a 10” wheel. I’d need 11” tests for those!
Your wheel tyre combo looks sweet though.
I've got 295s on the new 996 and not sure it needs them - it feels a bit more numb although hard to say if that's from the tyres. My other one has 265s with an LSD and that has more traction and feels more nimble at the same time. Your wheel tyre combo looks sweet though.
