Add nephrite and you've got the unholy trinity.

Shame 996s are so tricky to convert to manual, a fair amount of E36/E46 M3's get switched to manual as it's a fairly easy swap, doesn't appear to be the case with the 9X6 platform.

Yeah but an E46 SMG is just a Manual with a robotised manual gearbox, the tip is a proper automatic for a start.

I see the 996 Ocean Jade Nephrite with the funny aero kit is coming up on CC soon...

I'm feeling guilty, I've been having thoughts lately about changing my 996.1 for a Gransport.
I know I shouldn't, I've got mine sorted with Hartech rebuild & new MO30 suspension in last 6K miles but the shining pictures jump out at me. This lockdown is doing weird things to my mind

Mine went last week. New toys always appeal more than the one you have

Looks like it’s being scammed on eBay at the mo?

I’ve reported the listing.

Wow. I'm not sure but I think I love that. A bold first owner for sure!

I quite liked nephrite in that black aero car that was for sale a while back (the one that's getting wide bodied on the facebook). Also like it on the silver aero car that does the rounds at Christmas.

However, not a fan of it with a jade green exterior. Same as I wouldn't be a fan of a GR car with a red interior.

Plus, its a 3.6 so it shouldn't be allowed in here.

A rusty old defender 90 in need of a chassis swap. I don’t do anything unless it’s in the extreme. hehe

Just started to dip my toe into the waters of an early 996 hunt.

This thread is very valuable source of info and entertainment - my wife can only drive auto, so does this mean I can get into a good one stupidly cheap as most want manuals? Anything in particular to be looking for in a 98/99 vintage tip? It’s only going to be a weekend toy to go with my plan to strip down my Mk1 mx5 as a cheap track toy so will have that for manual kicks

I’d say you’re going to get a tip about £1-2K cheaper than a manual but all the other rules still apply, stupidly cheap usually leads to stupidly big bills & completely spoils the experience.
I still think you need £15K to get a decent car.

In re reading that reply, your correct, £15K for a 911 is stupidly cheap

If you have to go for a tip, then look in to the steering wheel paddle upgrade. There's a mod to change the rockers to paddles from a Mercedes which makes things feel better

Sold mine last week for £11,500. High miles at 157k, but the buyer had an inspection and the guy inspecting it said he wanted it if the buyer backed out, because all the mechanical stuff was done.

So, spending on a stupidly cheap one doesn’t always mean big bills are coming

Thanks guys, sold my gen2 Boxster S last year and want another Porsche, but fancy a 911 this time. A gen 2 997 is out of budget, so would prefer to go as early 996 as I can, ambers and all.

Know what to look for mechanically on the Boxster, so assume most would apply here as well.
Good tip on the paddles, think that will make a difference
