Ah that was you! Yes, nice to have a chat with someone in person who isn't my girlfriend, or the cat.

Ah was good to meet you - car sounded (and looked!) fantastic pulling away from the lights.

Cant find any wet bits.

Whipped the carpets out the back. Found some damp here where my toes are. Equates to back of car, passenger side near wiper and window seal area corner area.

Don't think you've got a sunroof so not that unless you do have one!

Thanks guys, sold my gen2 Boxster S last year and want another Porsche, but fancy a 911 this time. A gen 2 997 is out of budget, so would prefer to go as early 996 as I can, ambers and all.

Know what to look for mechanically on the Boxster, so assume most would apply here as well.
Good tip on the paddles, think that will make a difference
If you're looking for a tip then you could do a lot worse than this. The moody photos do the ad no favours.

The owner is on the 996 Carrera owners facebook group. Certainly worth having a chat with them if you're serious. I can recommend a good indie in the area to PPI if you take it any further.

ATM, can you get someone to run the hose around the rear screen rubber whilst you're in the car? You might be able to see where the water is coming in without the carpets etc in place

ATM, what's the situation with your doors? Membranes intact and door cards on?

Seem to remember you previously had issues with the locking mechanism / window regulator, and that they'd been partially disassembled for some time.

Looking at those drips, I would get the rear window out & refitted. Get the rear wiper deleted (as they say) while you’re at it. smile

I bought the wiper delete kit (which is a metal bung) and it leaked a little from there. If anyone gets one, run some sealant around it before fitting it.

Looks way too expensive and the chavvy stickers break my heart. The Zenith tip I posted earlier was thousands less, looked better and lower miles. Perhaps I’m just a sucker for turbo twists

Both doors cards / trims bone dry. All carpet in front of seats and behind of front seats dry. I could not find any damp anywhere which is why I started pulling out the rear padding / wadding as per pics. These don't feel damp on top - carpet side - it's only the foam on the underside which feels a bit damp in the corner where wiper is. Not wet just a bit damp. So my thinking is a little bit of heat from the engine has started pushing this moisture around the cabin.

Could rear window seal leak - not happy about that if so. Or is wiper more likely?

Hello. Finally getting involved. Wanted a base 996 for a long time. I believe it to be the best looking 911 ever made (seriously) and have been tipped over the edge by this group.

Question, what is the consensus on optimum wheel size for this car?

I'd say 18", others will say 17" and nobody will say squeeze 19" wheels on biggrin

I think 18 is the best balance of aesthetics and performance. A really light set of 17s probably drive better but they usually look a bit small. I've seen 19s look okay but most of the time they look too big. Lots of folk that fit 19s seem to get the offset completely wrong as well.

It was only an option. I'd agree on the stickers and the wheels (although it's virtually impossible to see them) but unlike a ruffled blue leather interior, those are easily rectified. So a silver/black factory aero car with an enthusiast owner the last 9 years might be worth a premium to some.

I think this depends a lot on ride height and offset. My car is seriously low and therefore the 17 look a bit better than how they might look if ride height was much higher. Picture opportunity ......

Also I have seen some 996 wearing 19 where the rears poke out a bit and they look stupid if you ask me. I'm less concerned about the diameter than I am the poke.
