Hi All,

I just replaced my engine mounts with 993rs mounts, which has made an improvement but my exhausts still don't sit quite straight... Any ideas on how to adjust the exhaust? From looking there is a way to adjust the whole back box but It isn't clear.

Could the gearbox mount be sagging and could this affect exhaust?

Possibly? I have no record of the gearbox Mount being changed, I will look into it.

The gearbox mount needs pressing out of the casing, it’s not an easy DIY task unless you can get hold a specific tool that one of the American specialists has developed, sorry I forget their name, but ~$400 when I looked.

You can loosen the clamps holding the section with the tips on them coming out of the boxes and adjust tip alignment without moving the boxes.

If the gearbox mounts were sagging wouldn't that mean the engine was sloping slightly up towards the back meaning the exhaust tips would be closer to the bumper rather than further away?

Thanks guys, I will speak to a garage and see if they can adjust it...It isn't too drastic but isn't 100% and triggers my OCD....

On the plus side, the car has less movement at the rear now with the RS mounts!

I did mine DIY, but the gearbox was on the floor.

Easy to cut the old one out with a hacksaw through the outer metal, then the new one goes in. You need to fashion a press out of something like thick metal pipe the right diameter and need a big hammer to smack it in with. I used some kind of metal pipe cap and gave up with threaded rod as a press and just used the big hammer.

I got the replacement from design911 i think, it was a few years back now but it was the OE supplier brand, not much £

Well done! I was planning to do mine myself, got a steel fabricator I use at work to give me a couple of off cuts of Circular Hollow Section roughly the right size to press it out. I tried it but couldn’t get enough drop to use the CHSs, I could have tried before replacing my engine mounts with RSS ones.

looks nice, but I think being a 2000 car, it won't have either the dual row IMS bearing, or throttle cable; yet the advert states that it has both of these.

Thoughts on E10 fuel? Thought I'd pop this is here as there is a lot of general wisdom, I'm finding in difficult to identify exactly whats what

I always run higher octane fuel in my 996, and will continue do so as long as it's available, but if push came to shove, would it cause an issue?

When did the door air bags come in and is this related to MY and dual row and cable throttle.
My 98MY C2 has no door airbags? Noticed the car in question has door airbags.

2000 is a transition year, and from what I’ve seen, cars can have quite different specs depending on when they were built.

Mine’s an early 2000 (delivered Jan 1), has dual row (confirmed by Indy a few years ago), (optional) PSM (so no cable throttle) and door bags.

Mine is an X reg and it has a dual row but e-throttle as it's a C4. There is no exact cut off date the same as there's no cut off date for the revised bearing as some late 996.2s were fitted with that.

Dual row is a myth anyway. The survey on the FB owners group last year actually showed the dual row to be the most common one too fail. That's not to say I believe any of them actually have a high failure rate and I'm far more likely to lose sleep over the plastic chain guides and tensioners. The only real statistics available are the figures from the 2011 class action case in the US and that shows a tiny percentage with pre 2000 cars omitted as there was a 10 year limit on the claim. I think that's partially where the dual row myth came from.

Haha, get it up ye 964 and 993 owners.

Apparently my 205 isn't going to like the stuff (not a huge concern as it's usually broken). I believe it will actually run on it but the main issue is that it causes the fuel lines and fuel filter to fall apart. I'm sure someone will come up with a solution soon enough.
