Carbon Fibre VTD duck tail
More pics of this please.

Still not sure if I like or no like these in general. On the fence.

Do the big open gaps allow rain and what not onto the engine?
GT3 lids are fairly open, too.
Engine's aren't generally that bothered by getting damp. Do you loose the engine compartment fan though?

I thought 23 year old car and water might equal poor electrical connectors. If water gets into the cabin these cars fall apart. Is anyone brave enough to pressure wash their engine?

You keep the original fan, I'll get some images of the underside of it when its back from the body shop. I wanted the wiper removed and the 3rd brake light is in the ducktail so I wanted the original gone too. I bought a fibre glass panel but really wasn't happy with it so they welded some plates in to fill the holes. The paint has sunk slightly so its back with them.

Ahh this is making me even more impatient for my Ducktail.

I ordered a Carbon one at the beginning of the month and was told 3 weeks, chased it up this week to be told they probably won't start manufacturing it for another few weeks at the earliest (always nice to be kept in the loop eh!)

I'm more than a little annoyed to say the least!

The connections on the 996 are all pretty well sealed to the elements. With pressure washing an old engine bay the issue isn't water ingress it's the pressure of the jet blasting old connections apart and damaging fragile wires.

Same, although I just can't justify/afford the price tag on the carbon version.

I'd only pay the price for the carbon version if I was doing some sort of lightweight build or the fit was much much better than the GRP versions. They look the same when painted and I wouldn't want visible carbon on a car as it's a bit MaxPower.

I plan on using one of these.

I imagine it'll cost the same again in paint and prep' prior to fitting though.

Any suggestions on best oil for a 100k 3.6? Am thinking 10w50 Millers CFS but wondered what peoples thoughts might be about Penrite HPR10 10w50?

Seems well priced too at £35 for 5 litres.

There are 2 types of Millers. One a bit cheaper than the other. I didn't realise last year and just bought the cheaper one. So now I'm not sure which one is the recommended. I think the recommendation in these cars came from Hartech and has since become common law.

Thanks guys. If it’s good enough for them it’ll do for me.

That looks fishy to me. Hardly any photos and half look like they've been pulled off the internet. The account has zero feedback as a seller but the ad suggests they are a trader. Details in the ad also raise some concern.

"Every now and then the fuel pump goes lazy for 1 second" - Hmm, I'm guessing they mean it feels like a misfire/hesitation
"new coils and plugs last year" - possibly done to try to sort this mystery hesitation to no avail?
"In daily use not economical for me so unfortunately decided to sell" - Seems fair enough
"sold as seen took in as a trade in runs and drives fine" - If you're a trader I'm afraid that get out doesn't work. Seems to contradict the info above

MOT history doesn't look too bad. Looks to have done a few thousand miles since April.

I like the colour but agree the ad is pretty poor and the whole dealer thing is off putting.

Indeed, I spoke to them last week as I recently bought a 996.1 with a Hartech rebuilt engine, and was recommended the Fully Synthetic 10w 40..

I like that very much. The centre exit exhaust is such a nice looking thing but so bloody expensive.
