Completely bog standard ones always look bland as the ride height is pretty high and the wheels are really tucked. The 993 suffers the same issue along with the 997 to some extent. Drop them and sort the wheels and they suddenly start to look a bit more purposeful but without all the overly aggressive styling of some of the newer cars.
Enquired about this one. Seems half decent. Nothing a set of spring and spacers/geo wouldn't sort out. Actually like the wheels funnily enough. Weird how your tastes change.

The blue one?

The big problem with that car is the beige seats which I quite like but most refer to it as baby pewk.

One of the things I like about 996 is that even just a couple of subtle mods can allow you to put your own stamp on them. Mine was pretty bland I guess but a change of wheel and mirror colour had quite an impact visually. Obviously this is all subjective but it’s the basic shape that’s so nice. The only other visual changes I’d make are yellow brake callipers and a slightly lower ride height. I’d like a ducktail but I simply can’t afford one.

Only thing I didn’t like about 996 was that you couldn’t backdate them as you could with 964 and previous generation. Thankfully I see them differently nowadays and they’ve become more ‘classic’ (for want of a better phrase) in their own right.

What have you done with your wing mirror covers Mark, it’s difficult to tell on my phone?

I was thinking of hydro dipping mine in carbon.
I used a pair of these...

Mine we forty quid used on eBay though. smile

Less is more. Remove a few bits (rear badge and wiper), lower and a nice set of wheels and jobs a good 'un!
I don’t understand why you’d want to remove something that aids rearward vision.
I've never used my RWW. I don't even know how to turn it on: laugh I did check the price of a rear screen without the hole though and it's £762.22!
I use it whenever it rains. Helps me to keep an eye on my surroundings. Perhaps I’m old fashioned.
Would a large portion of Rain-X do the job? I've not done enough wet weather miles in 996s to know how much of an issue it is.
I'd remove my wiper if I could find a bung/delete kit. The guy in Greece that used to sell them on eBay has vanished off the face of the earth.

I don't ever use mine despite living in the we(s)t of Scotland. I've used Rain X for glass before but last year a friend who's in to all that detailing nonsense asked why I did just wax the rear screen. I thought he was taking the pee. Turns out if you apply regular wax and let it dry fully before buffing off the water just runs right off the glass.

I thought the wiper was on the panel below the screen on all 996s?

I'll go check... laugh

Unfortunately I have just had some less than good news and may have to sell my 996. If anyone here might be interested please give me a shout as I want it to go to someone who appreciates it.

It's not - gen 2 exactly the same as gen 1 in this regard ... it's on the rear panel - the windows are identical with or without wiper

I think it's just down to my misunderstanding a FGP video where they were talking about a yellow 996 that had come from the factory without the RWW combined with my assumption that it came through the rear glass. Sorry. silly

I think some 997's had window mounted rear wipers, maybe the source of the mix-up.

What do we think to this?

Ignoring the Tip problem it's an interesting car as a possible parts donor or for conversion to manual. I'm even beginning to like the look of aero without side skirts.

Looks good, wonder how much a manual conversion can be done for.

I prefer it without the skirts, was scarred by a Tickford Capri at a young age. I do change with the wind on front ends and rear spoilers though. Currently not liking ducktails, sure it'll change.

Nice apart from the box. I know this is a controversial opinion but I think those seats are plain ugly.

Unfortunately my own 996 is currently listed but I'm still clinging to the hope that I might be able to hang on to it.

The offer still stands, those seats are horrific. Look how saggy the leather is.

I would imagine they are replicas… otherwise it would be worth buying the car just to get them.

Tip is not a problem for me, as wife can’t drive a manual but those seats are awful - be swapping those out straight away - exterior looks good though
