You may have to start using the same line as me, 'I can't sell it now darling, prices are on the rise'...!
Yeah, I tried that one as well, but her argument is it costs more per year to run than it is appreciating.I just remind her of the 350+ pairs of shoes she has.

Unless I have a breakage between now and December, then I think my total spend for the first year will be £1500. That includes a big service and thorough check over just after I bought the car, so I could've saved some money there but for peace of mind it was worth it.
I paid just shy of £11k for the car in December. It's a 99 C2 manual coupe with 135k on the clock, so I'm probably there or thereabouts one spend against value. As long as I don't lose my shirt on it, I don't mind

It's not the regular stuff that kills the finances - mine is generally c.£1K for annual service/MOT/pair of rear tyres etc. It's when you have to do something major, like a gearbox rebuild, or a full exhaust.
In 8yrs so far I've had 2 x water pump, header tank, a/c condensors, clutch, exhaust, 4 x coffin arms, top mounts & rear TCA's, several sets of brakes & numerous other bits as well as normal servicing, tyres etc.anonymous said:

I paid 10k exactly for my 74k miles Ocean Blue '98 C2 (pictured on previous page). That was five yrs ago.I couldn't find much worth having for much less. It had a brilliant service history, interior, and mechanical condition, but the exterior was a bit scruffy.
Sold it a 3 years ago and it had covered it's costs, think it went for just over 12. I still see it - I moved and the bloke who bought it lives on my new route to work.
One I'd sorted house move getting back into one was high on the list.

Were they? I was really looking at them, 2012-2013..the lowest end was still (London), 11-12k over 100k 996 C2. Actually test drove one of them near Marylebone.
I do remember though, couple of air-cooled Cat D Targa's were around 10-15k in 2012 and not jumping into one of them probably was the biggest mistake.
Why would you want to buy a Cat D Targa? Aside from not having a tip 'box, I really can't think of a Porsche that would make a worse investment!!!!I do remember though, couple of air-cooled Cat D Targa's were around 10-15k in 2012 and not jumping into one of them probably was the biggest mistake.

I cant believe these were 7 or 8000 a couple of years ago. Imagine how badly maintained they were.
There's a receipt in my history folder for when the car sold a few years back, £8700 I think. There are also bills from around the same time which I haven't added up but totalled several thousand, so that previous owner wasn't scrimping despite the low value at the time!Fast Bug said:
...4 new tyres and maybe a ducktail as routine maintenance
Haha! I'm about to get 4 new tyres for mine (going with PS4) - would love to justify a ducktail as routine maintenance...LordHaveMurci said:

Just say it quickly when you tell your other half what's been done to the car and it becomes part of the routine maintenance IanG1 said:
Looks like a gap in the service history of 4 years though? another 10/12K max car not so long back gets a mop, wheel refurbishment and service and now 18.5K. I give Friends Green credit though for keep turning them up and banging them out for sale, their stock never seems to hang around long.
I spotted the gap in the history too...It was a £10-12k car, it's not anymore though. Prices have changed, I won't lament over the £15k 964 I should've bought, or when the G Body cars were £10k and I ummed and ahhed over if I should stop spending money on old VW's and buy a 911

As others have already said, although you may could have bought one at that price, the median price for one certainly was higher than that.Have a look at this PH Feature from 2011
and this Thread from 2014
PS
For future reference, it would be nice to include a screenshot of ad's featured in threads. Most annoying if the links doesn't work anymore in a couple of weeks , let alone a couple of years!
