Insurance companies have no idea who Hartech are and place no value on a rebuilt engine. You are kidding yourself if you think engines rebuilds and significant maintenance add value for insurance purposes. As I mentioned if you want to protect the money you've put in to some extent then you need an agreed value policy. That is not the same as telling the insurance company what you think the market value is.

The car went in to have a baffled sump fitted and they found metal fragments in the oil filter housing. It turned out to be one of the cam chain tensioners. The car had the IMS bearing replaced 5 years/10k miles ago, and we think there was some debris from the failed/failing previous bearing which was left in there. As the engine needed to come apart I thought it best to go for a full rebuild including new liners, upgraded IMS and bearing, crank bearings, refurbed heads, new water pump etc etc. The car will be a keeper smile As prices seem to be increasing a little, plus Hartech have a good reputation and are the go-to firm for M96/M97 rebuilds, I thought this would add a good 3-4k to the value of the car, but the insurance company seem to think not.

edh - Thanks, I might give that a go.
Dedication to the cause! and I'm sure it will pay off in the long run.

Are you able to say who did the IMS work five years ago?

Very nice!! And reasonably priced too.

Plus It's the same colour as my 996 c4 - reckon I could change it without the O/H noticing...?

Not seen this colour on a 996.1 before; I like it a lot, though not a fan of the carbon trim.

Fair price too.

I'm not normally a fan of aero kitted cars but for some reason that one looks ok

I do not. I don't like gold or beige. I don't like meridian either which to me looks goldy beige.

Agree on the GT3 sill plates, but otherwise I find that strangely attractive, almost certainly unique and very keenly priced. I'd have expected another £5k on that to be honest.

It's definitely a marmite car- possibly that's why the price is keen. If you love carbon fibre and metallic beige then it's hard to see how this can be bettered. Personally I quite like that colour of the exterior but the interior is somewhat OTT

I saw this a few days ago and was totally conflicted!
This is definitely not one for ambers... or is it?!

The carbon tatt isn't for me though, for sure, and it's a C4.

That colour looks OK on older 911's, but looks horrendous on a 996, particularly a kitted one.

I wouldn't choose that interior, but it wouldn't put me off as much as the exterior.

You could always swap the steering wheel for a standard one to calm the interior down a bit. Porsche weren't really at their best in the 996 years laugh

I must say, in my opinion, that is hideous.

If it's the carbon turning someone off I'd happily swap the new owner all my standard black trim ;-)
