Now what should happen is that the powers that be should apply this exemption to all cars of this same model / engine, as they will all have the same emissions standards, rather than requiring every single owner of the same car to do the same. Nice to dream sometimes isn't it

I've started to use the 996.1 C2 as my daily and am surprised prices have held up if not crept up a little!

Also, if I put the registration in to the TFL website it come out as needing to pay £12.50. I have a 2001 model, what do I need to do?

That'd be nice wouldn't it..?

The process was thus:

• Email Porsche GB ([e-mail]) to request the CoC. Currently this is free but I wouldn't blame them for applying a charge if hundreds start requesting them; other manufacturers charge for a CoC. The CoC is sent from Germany so takes a couple of weeks.
• Use the TfL form online to apply for an exemption (https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/compliance-registration/before-you-start)
• You will need to upload a scan of your V5 and your CoC

In my case TfL rejected my initial application because none of the documentation states 'Euro 4 / IV' anywhere. Which is fair enough as it wasn't a requirement back then.

• I wrote a follow-up email reply to the TfL rejection email explaining that I believed the car meets Euro 4 spec and had provided evidence to support this, which was seemingly automatically fed into the ticketing system. 3-4 weeks later got another email from TfL confirming my car is now registered as exempt.

TfL's website isn't the easiest to navigate and their communication systems can seem like a black hole sometimes but I've always managed to get the correct result in the end.

I think you'd have a hard time convincing TfL that a 911 is a showman's vehicle

But any 996 should be compliant so you can gain full exemption, if my very early car is. No need for any dodges, the cars meet the standard.

I actually bought this car in auction. I was bidding on a nice Lapis Blue 996 Turbo Manual and got upto £31,500 and called it a day, went for £32,000 in the end..... 3 cars next was this C4 and I thought, oh what the heck, I'll buy this one. I am rational when it comes to most things in life, not so much with my cars though it seems

So to add to and resolve my initial post. This purchase did not occur in the end.

I won the car in auction, well respected, so I thought, auction house, who deal primarily in classic cars.....

It was an impulse purchase I must admit, see my original post, but I can read quite well, and the listing clearly stated : fully stamped up Porsche Service Book. After winning it, they said it needed to go in for a fix for a CEL to be fixed, before I collected the car. They stated the CEL had popped up, in the auction literature on the day of the auction and that it would be resolved at the seller's cost. Great !

However they didn't state/edit, that the fully stamped up Porsche Service book, was now AWOL. So they were able to amend their listing to state there was now a CEL, but ignored the fact that there was no service book anymore and felt it was not worth updating their listing, advising bidders on the day??

I quite liked this car, which I had never seen before, but won, and said I would adjust my price. They weren't having any of it. Fair enough and good bye then.....i even got the car added onto my classic car fleet policy and also joined Porsche Club GB too.

So if anyone can point me to a nice 996 please do let me know. Early or late or even Turbo. (Manual coupes only) I'd also consider the same in 997 flavour, but note its outside of the realm of this thread.
