Fitted the starter motor, made the connections and the the terminal snapped off, an inspection shows it has been partially broken for some time

So is it possible to replace the solenoid or is it a new motor?, if new motor does anyone have any recommendations?, my old one was always quite slow at cranking

You could replace the solenoid but it isn't worth doing unless you cure the slow cranking
Assuming that all the vehicle wiring is good, the slow cranking is likely to be caused by bad commutation, you would need to strip the motor down, skim the commutator face in a lathe and fit new brushes

Fair enough, i will buy a new one, i will take a look at the WOSP, are they good?, i have looked on the internet and there is a wide price range of parts to replace this with, just wondered what others had already done and could comment on.

The Global Power brand starter I bought from a Range Rover parts specialist for £68 over 6 years ago still cranks my engine super strongly and has been totally reliable all these years.

You don't need an overpriced Wasp or £200 Powerlite starter which are just adapted Denso starters anyway.

Spend £70 and its job done.

£65 for a new one, it turns over twice as fast as the old one and starts much faster hot or cold, great improvement
