I'm installing a "worked" 500 (ex Chimaera) into my '79MGBGT. I bought it without any induction but I have a manifold and plenum base from a 4.6 LR. So my questions are:
do I need a gasket between the manifold and plenum like the one ACTProducts sells? (I can't find one on Rimmers or tvr-parts and there wasn't one with my manifold and plenum but I think I bought those as two parts.)
at present being ex LR the manifold is 38mm bore as are the trumpets. I assume I should machine it to 44mm and buy corresponding diameter trumpets?
what is the height of the Chimaera trumpet and are they all the same height in the plenum or are they two heights like on the LR?
(The induction won't fit under my bonnet in LR configuration so I have to delete height where I can).

All can be purchased from V8d.
I would also upgrade the throttle to 72mm .

As Daz says, and check out the ACT website.... I have an ACT CF plenum/triple TB's on my mildly modified 500

As an aside, I've owned a number of 'B's, including a 'factory' BGT V8 which I stupidly sold about 4 years ago, and I still have my old '72 roadster....
Apologies in advance if this sounds like teaching you to suck eggs, but I'm guessing you won't be using any of the original 'B' transmission or rear suspension?
Oh, and I've got a set of brand new RV8 manifolds and back system if of interest, just need holes cutting in the inner wings to fit
Chilli.

Thanks. I've found out that LR use a silicone bead rather than a gasket between the manifold and plenum base rather than a gasket so it looks like the TVR500 used a gasket. I have the facilities to machine the plenum base and port/polish the manifold and trumpet holes but I'm still seeking confirmation on the height of the trumpets.
I'd also like to know if the 44mm trumpets (or were they 45) in the 500 were flared or straight and what was the clearance between the top of the trumpet and the underside of the plenum.
I'm aware of V8developments/V8tuner etc.

Couple of good threads here, first has a photo of the standard 500 trumpet base and trumpets..

No need to use silicone/RTV on the plenum to base joint (too hard to clean off) far easier to use just a smear of Hylomar this is easily removed with carb cleaner/brake cleaner solvents on removal and none of the TVR RV8.s use any kind of gasket on that joint just the sealer aloneI'd also like to know if the 44mm trumpets (or were they 45) in the 500 were flared or straight and what was the clearance between the top of the trumpet and the underside of the plenum.

Thats the one just a light smear with your finger is all thats needed they are nicely machined flat faces already so sealer bead squeeze out not even necessary IMO http://hylomar.com/hylomar-product-range/gasket-jo...
