991.2 GT3 Deposit

So, when do we ask for our deposits back? I've been told I might get one in 2018. What do you think? Just ask for it back? It's £10k which is a lot of money to me.
£10k would be earning you less than £200 interest in a cash ISA.If £10k is a lot of money to you, does this mean that you couldn't have afforded a car, even if you'd been offered one?
My opc returned deposits to those unsuccessful in phase one. I was told they did this irrespective of whether the depositor had a chance of a phase two car; they'll ask for the deposit again once allocations for phase two are known. That could be an attempt at a gentle let down as they know I have no chance in phase two, but that's the story so far.

Keep it in. Could be last manual normally aspirated GT3!Give yourself a whack too for thinking silly things

Thanks to those who replied with helpful responses. I think they should return them whilst they find out their allocation for next year. Is Sidicks an anagram?
The second batch of cars have not yet been allocated or been given build slots so how can they ask for a deposit for a car that doesn't exist.Edited by 2010spy on Monday 15th May 22:42

It seems strange that someone contemplating a £150k car is worried about <£200 in interest, that's all.
No offence was intended.
Been told the same about keeping deposit in and waiting for wave too, which according to my OPC should be as soon as June. Not sure how much longer to "hang on" for potential allocation. Also advised not to shift GT4 until I know as this could be a bargaining chip.
Appreciate I was lucky enough to get GT4 which I've put 7k miles on. Feel like it's time for a change soon. Have enjoyed first foray into GT ownership. However could be it for a while now if I move GT4 on without getting GT3 mk2.
Will keep hat in ring for a few more weeks then may move onto something else?
Good luck to those waiting still!

I thought this time most dealers only requested deposits once allocations had been received and distributed . I'd been trying to force £10k onto them for months with no interest from there end . I finally paid about 3 weeks after Geneva when they received there allocation.
That said ....if I was in your shoes I'd leave it with them if there saying your still in with a chance. I wouldn't be rocking the boat with discussions around whether it's right or wrong to hold your deposit .
Deposits should only be taken when you place an order.
I never paid anything on my GT4 till I ordered it.
I also, fingers crossed have a 2018 GT3 coming and will get asked for a deposit when I order that one.
No OPC should take deposits on cars they don't have.
£10k is a lot of money and I am thinking of buying another car in the meantime so I don't want £10k gone for 12 months.
I see a deposit as a firm order and so does my OPC.

My deposit is sat with my OPC and I'm not concerned as if I asked for it back I am pretty much cancelling my interest in getting the car.
As they hear about the 2018 allocations I expect to be given my build slot.
That's where I am. As they hear about the 2018 allocations I expect to be given my build slot.
I also don't think you can generalise unfortunately as every OPC has a different policy and I think even some sales people operate differently at some OPC's. I was invited to place a deposit after the car was announced and have been told I am getting a 2018 car.
I think at this point OPC's know how many cars they are getting for the full run of 2018 model year which is from June this year until end of May next year. When you hear people quoting their OPC as saying they are getting 10 or 12 cars it's in that window they will have build slots for those cars. If GT3 production extends beyond May 2018 then they may get more cars but that is by no means certain. What they don't have yet is firm build slots/dates for the cars that will be built in 2018 so they can't confirm those cars to customers...if they do they're creating a potential liability for themselves so it's understandable that they aren't confirming them.
It's already a "liability" if they have taken a deposit imo, hence why good OPC's don't need deposits.
As it's invite only now, and much harder to get a car, There is zero need to take any money from a client until the order stage.
All you get atm is people waving money about , thinking this will work and even offering to buy other cars at the same time.
It's about Time Porsche UK dictated how the system works to the OPC this time round after all the RS4.0, 911R, GT4 and GT3 hassles of late.

I think the deposit game by some OPCs is another way to remove customers from their list. Look at this very topic, where the OP is considering asking for his deposit back, which would effectively mean losing any potential chance the OP had. The will be happening all across the country after the initial frenzy to put deposits down, so when it comes down to it, the OPCs will have fewer people to choose from. it sort of makes sense as if you honestly, truly, deeply want a GT3, you will keep the deposit in for a number a months. just my 2 cents
My OPC who imo seem to be very fair and transparent would not take the £10K deposit off me until they had secured me a definite allocation. This seems very fair and tbh any OPC which has taken £10K off potential GT3 buyers without a guaranteed allocation is walking on very thin ice especially with the full knowledge of the saga regarding the GT4 and 991.1GT3 RS allocations nightmare....

That is the correct thing to do and I believe the instruction from Porsche UK. I would ask also where do these dealers allocate the deposits without confirmed build slots. I'm sure if Porsche audit their accounts it will be glaringly obvious clear instruction has not been followed.robgt3 said:

they don't allocate ,the money sits in the OPC banks, which is not Porsche, be it j600, Sytner etc it's very bad form imo.Edited by Porsche911R on Tuesday 16th May 11:15
