The whole "you need to buy a few cars to be worthy of a CHANCE of GT3" stinks and maybe even illegal if they are taking £10k deposits on cars they KNOW the customer will never get!
If a deposit is asked for and placed then you should definitely get a car and if you miss out on a 17my car then you should be top of the 18my list!
I have a friend who is going down this exploitive road at the moment!
Agree that would be illegal but how can one prove you were never going to get a car?If a deposit is asked for and placed then you should definitely get a car and if you miss out on a 17my car then you should be top of the 18my list!

By not getting one maybe?
They're pretty clear even doing lots of biz with them doesn't guarantee a GT3 slot. Not the best situation but it is what it is. I hope Porsche make a few more than originally anticipated due to VWs current issues. Even if I do not get one not the end of the world but the vids of the car have made me even more keen to get my hands on a car!Desert Dragon said:

After you have explored the Porsche model range in depth and made your decision, you will need to place a preliminary deposit. This legally confirms your order and places it within the Porsche production process.
I couldn't find the bit about buying other cars makes your deposit more worthy!

If it is just a signature that is needed for the form then sign the form and when they are in a position to countersign then give them the £10k?

just don't pay a deposit unless you have an order, why do people hand over £10k and then moan for ever on here about it !
Because if you don't pay a deposit how are you supposed to get a car, other than buying several other cars a year and waiting for an invite. I have bought a few cars before, that typically involves placing a deposit.Just to be clear, I am not whinging about paying a £10K deposit, that I could not care less about. What I was not happy with was the dealer then coming back once they had my deposit and saying that I should buy a few other cars in order to try and improve my chances.

You mean the deposit that was paid over the phone, not in person.... distance contract.
Correct, it was over the phone and then they emailed a form for me to sign which I did and returned, they then did not countersign or return.I think its quite clear that an implied contract is in place when the T&Cs have been provided in return for the requested deposit, particularly when the customer is not present to sign....

Silly comment. You know full well that some OPC's request a deposit (rightly or wrongly) to be considered.
The issue is when a northern OPC take 70+ speculative £10k deposits......

Rightly or wrongly, this is now widespread particularly with franchised OPCs.Edited by tuffer on Friday 19th May 14:40
But at least they gave you the 3 options. Request the deposit back, leave things as they are or buy a few cars hopefully leading to a GT3.
The old days have long gone!

Hi D,The quote above is fine if its entirely left to the consumer to ""decide"". Although, its a mugs game because there would still be no definite allocation.
If its the OPC stating it, using the GT3 as a ""shifting more units tool"", then, imo, it really is stinky.
Hope your well, bud..
Don't see the massive issue really. I also put my name down for a GT3 with Leed's and simply received a call saying they had 11 cars allocated to them, which unfortunately we're going to others (who have done significantly more business with them than myself). They never requested a deposit from me, or buying other cars to assist my chances.
I just asked I remain on the list should for any reason a vehicle become available, or for the facelift model in due course.
I never thought I'd get one, but if you don't ask and and that .....

It's not just a GT3 thing. I placed a letter of intent 6 months before the official announcement of the GT4. The OPC told me they wouldn't take actual money (deposits) until the car was announced. At around 9:00am on the day of the announcement I phoned through a debit card deposit - I was asked for £10,000 and paid up.
A month went by - no news of whether I would get a car so I spoke with the dealer principal. He said I should never have been charged £10,000 as the GT4 deposit was £5,000. He arranged for an immediate refund of half my deposit. Another month goes by and after many phone calls I was told no car that year and virtually no chance of a car the following year, so I asked for the balance of £5,000 to be refunded.
Was I happy? No. Is there any point in complaining? No. That's just the way it is. Just for giggles I submitted a letter of intent for the 911R. No prizes for guessing the outcome. Won't stop me buying a Porsche because it's a great car - I'll just stick with the next best available model (GTS) which anyone can get . . . eventually.
