Jumpingjackflash - That's a stunning looking car!
Only a GT3 would entice me to part with my turbo but they are well out of my price range now!!

Price of a decent 6 or 7 GT3 is a serious consideration now, by comparison to current and recent turbo prices. That and the sneaking suspicion my limited driving abilities are such that the safety net of 4WD and PSM might not wisely be dispensed with are the only bar.

I'm seriously considering doing the PEC Silverstone GT course, just to have a proper try of a 7 GT3 if/while they still have them.

Which brings me to another subject I have to ask generally but particularly to Slippydiff; 991 GT3? For me, great cars, but from the passenger seat and from the emotional, visceral side of things, I think I prefer the 996/7 iterations.

Truth be known Digs, even the 997 GT3 was a step too far away from the tactility and engagement of the 996. I owned a couple of Gen 1 997 GT3's, and have driven at least 7 or 8 Gen 1 997 GT3 RS's.
I bought the second Gen 1 GT3 just to really convince myself they weren't for me. Don't get me wrong, they're fantastic cars (and along with the Cayman R, a bit of bargain currently) but I found them just too accomplished and capable for road use, I'll reiterate, they're fantastic cars, and compared with an R8 or a V8 Vantage they're in a different league when it comes to feel, tactility and engagement, but the sweet spot for watercooled GT cars was the 996 in my very humble opinion.

As for the 991 ? too big, waaaay too accomplished, waaaay too fast to even begin scratching the surface of their capabilities on the road, and the Gen 1 GT3 being flappy paddle only, just too "easy".

I saw a Riviera blue example whilst out spanking the Cayman yesterday evening, the pangs of envy were fleeting (basically until I needed to heel and toe downchange for the next, fast approaching corner..........)

I know, I know, I'm a luddite smile

Too powerful - I can sympathise with the issues, as my 996 turbo is mapped to about 500 bhp. I actually really enjoy using it on the track, but on the road, you really have to forget about trying to get much utility from the available boost.

The other aspect is expense, once you move above a 996 or 997.1 GT3 and over £100k, premiums for both annual and track cover effectively double, as far as I can discern, so unless you have very deep pockets (both my parents are from Yorkshire, so that's me out) and long arms, it's a serious consideration.

OP's car looks a very nice example of a fantastic compromise of all the factors.

Mk2 the better track car, Mk1 the better road car. Mk 1 more complaint and more than quick enough to get you into trouble ....... (with the aid of the local deer populace) :

Always blame wild animals on a country road. Rule.

And that didn't polish out then?

H, I have a memory (possibly wrong) that the car was exported & appeared on a certain Dutch breakers website as "damaged repairable"?

Quite possibly N. By the time it reached that stage the seats had been removed. It eventually sold to an individual who paid a ridiculously high price (circa £9K) for it, allegedly to convert a Cup car to road spec. Reading between the lines he wanted the trim and hoped to sell the other parts to recoup some of his initial outlay. Suffice to say he wasn't best pleased to find the gearbox/final drive were about as much use as an ashtray on a motorcycle.
And as we both know, the shell was only ever going to be used as a chicken coop with the rear bulkhead wobblier than a dog's back leg ! !

For those reading this, I put the salvage on ebay and got about £5-6k for it. It sold to an individual who removed the carbon fibre/leather bucket seats for another project and then re-listed the car on ebay, He duly sold it for £9k (or possibly a bit more) ......

You need to do it! My son and I did the GT experience at Silverstone a couple of years ago. Got to drive a standard 997 GT3, 997 GT3rs and the mighty
GT3rs 4.0. Awesome cars all three! smile

I have to ask then; was that not inexpensive experience what lead you down the considerably more not inexpensive route to buying a GT3? biggrin
