Random Motorcycle restrictions Bank
Discussion
On my commute home I occasionally go right through the city when I don't have the stomach to deal with lower thames street without screaming at coach drivers.
Anyway so I got a penalty from City of London telling me I used restricted access. Turns out they are testing some new special restrictions that have been in place less than a month. Effectively from Queen Victiria Street if you enter the Bank junction 65 quid please between ( can't remember the times but its like 4 and 7 ish)
So A) don't get caught. B) I am tempted to complain that I have never seen any signs to the effect that this was changing. I am sure they are there but can I argue they are too small? Any bright ideas?
The thing is they do make it difficult for motorcycles going east. Lower Thames Street ruined and now bank closed.
Sorry this is like a 2/10 rant but its monday so haven't fully built up my anger yet.
Cheers all

I suggest you turn yourself into the police now, and surrender your driving license. Also, please donate all of your savings and at least 90% of your earnings to brake.org.uk road accident charity, you may also want to consider going to your local vicar and confess your crimes, you can pay for your sins by living a minimalist puritan life as a monk.

Have you fallen off your bmx again?Coincidence, but.. I have just walked through Bank and you certainly have my sympathy. The official blue busses and bike only signs are probably the right size, but their locations seem ludicrous- right before the junction, so if you arrive at that point your choice is driving through and being ticketed, or doing a dangerous and obstructive 3 point turn. (OK, on a bike, a relatively safe U Turn, but ...). I saw several of each in a few minutes.
There are temporary red noticeboards further away warning of the change at Bank, but they are low and could be obstructed by pedestrians or parked vehicles. And of course are no help if you are not familiar with the area (as they do not say how far to Bank, or where you should go instead).
I don't know if the poor overall design of the closure is grounds for appeal, but seems a very poor set up.

It's a "safety scheme" apparently...

Bizarrely thought there are no restrictions on buses going through who, other than HGVs, I would have thought have been party to the majority of the incidents at the junction which has brought this scheme about. This comment isn't based on any facts or statistics however, just my own view

Intriguing how it's being pitched as experimental, but generates real fines. Looks like another half baked & rushed scheme. There is no definition given on that page as what the experiment is.
Reminds me of the rather underhand/weird/crooked but effective process the local nimby's used to reduce the speed from 40 to 30, but pitching it as a trial. There is not measure for the trial in place including duration, and its 100% enforceable (and they put up the signs properly) therefore indiscriminable from a permanent change.

This, CCTV everywhere, 20mph zones, jammed street parking where a space only becomes available when a bike gets stolen, have all conspired to making biking in Central London totally un-fun

That was a good read. If I was still living in London I'd definitely be joining in. Such a shame that more isn't being done to promote scooters and bikes in the capital.Gassing Station | Biker Banter | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
