I've done 20k miles on one taking it from 15k to 35k in six years.

Its been great. Never used a drop of oil between services. Nothing has gone wrong either apart from wear and tear.

Recently I needed a new clutch cable and rear sprocket carrier bearings.

Depending on the mileage its wear and tear you need to look out for. Wheel bearings, head bearings mainly.

Not much really goes wrong.

I find it comfortable enough but it can get a bit painful if you are going slow for a while as the wind blast takes a lot of weight off your wrists.

I get nearly 50mpg on a 20 mile each way A and B road commute which is nice. 140 miles to the fuel light and probably another 40 after that if you take it easy.

Really easy bike to work on too.

If you have any specific questions I'm happy to try and help.

No probs.

Unless you get unlucky with a lemon you can't really go wrong with one of these IMO.

Money wise £2k to £3k is probably the sweet spot but I wouldn't be put off by a sound one needing work for less than that as parts are easy to get and its a nice bike to work on.

I had a k1, one of my track mates has a k5 and I now have a k6

One thing that seems to be common is the gearbox breaking up. I can only comment on track though but mine went and my mates went twice in 4 years.

Other than that and the cheap typical suzuki metal they are great bikes. I'm on my second one and it does me proud

From experience of owning a GSX-R of that era with loads of miles, the rear sprocket carrier bearing goes first, then the rear wheel bearings, and finally front wheel bearings. The bearings are cheap to replace if you have the right tools. I had to last year replace the sprocket carrier bearing for the 2nd time, so the rear wheel ones are probably not far behind.

I can't remember when I replaced my headstock bearings, I would have to check old MOT's when I had an advisory for it, and waited until the next winter layup to replace it.

Statorsand rectifiers commonly go on these. Mine took the battery and ecu with it, making my ebay bargain somewhat less so. Great bikes though and very flattering handling if your ability is as limited as mine.

I shouldve said that too. I think just about all Suzuki's have this issue? My K1 did and killed the battery
