Hi All,

I'm in the market for a new car but struggling with inspiration on what to get... car history is a Fiesta ST then (and currently) a Civic Type-R FN2. We've recently had a child so need something that is family friendly but it won't be the daily family car as my wife has an Evoque.

I love the sound the civic makes even though it's not the fastest car it is a lot of fun so I'm looking to retain the fun element but have a car that I could take for a long road trip too.

Looking to spend £30-40k.

At the moment I'm thinking along the lines of the S or RS Audi estate range...but posting here for suggestions please!

Thanks!

Chris

Why not the new type R, larger car all over bigger boot in budget.. UNles you need to carry 5 people it's all you need

That is unless the OH plans on unloading the house into the car every time you take the nipper out..

The C63 is a fantastic car, if i had to pick one car to do everything that would be it. I also have a soft spot for the S6, in fact i preferred it to the RS6.

I forgot to add the very sensible options:

A Focus ST-3 Estate with the Mountune MR300 kit & LSD this would take care of your space/pace needs & they come loaded with kit.

Or the 350bhp Polestar V60

Golf R Estate

Out of the more sensible options above I'd take the Polestar but out of the whole lot it would be the C63 for me but I'm bias. smile

Sorry for not replying sooner, I tried on Friday but was unable to as I'm a new member and the site was blocking posts from new members due to a site issue frown

Thank you all for the suggestions!!

Seems like the C63 is the favourite but I don't particularly like the look of it...however, I'm going to test drive one anyway to see if it changes my mind!

I managed to test drive an RS4 Avant B8 yesterday and absolutely loved it, naturally aspirated V8 sounded great and it drove like a larger version of my FN2! Haven't managed to find one on autotrader that is the specification and colour I like yet - this would have been the right colour/spec but it's already reserved: http://www.alexandersprestige.co.uk/stock/7529202-...

I will also check out the new Type-R as it seems to be quite an upgrade but as it's brand new I'm not sure what the availability will be like.

ZX10R NIN - what did you not like about the M3?

md4776 - I've also had a TT Roadster as a 2nd car for a while too but sold that on Saturday, so I'm sort of consolidating 2 cars into 1 better car for me but still family friendly.

I have the VW R estate and love it. Looks pretty tame according to online reviews, but I think its very nice and understated and classy. You don't see many about, but it does get loads of admiring looks for sure and some respect on the road, although many want to race you :-).

I had to change the exhaust system to improve the noise from the rear. The new facelift (mk7.5) model does have the improved standard exhaust system, ie, all 4 pipes now work properly (2 of 4 are only for show on the mk7 estate).

I had a non Competition Pack (it wasn't out when I had mine) M3 & I didn't like the fake noise (but that was sorted before I picked it up) the exhaust note really isn't great I changed mine which made it better but it still just seemed like noise rather than an engine note.

It didn't feel particularly special interior wise (but the front seats are very good) for the money I'd forked out also at low speed it just didn't feel special but when you got on it, it performed brilliantly yes there were traction issues & the ride wasn't the best apart from when pressing on.

The one thing the M3 had was looks (I think the 3 looks better than the 4 in this respect) every time I came out & looked at it I smiled.

It didn't help that the I still had the CLK63 which the M3 was supposed to replace & that car has character in spades so I guess the M3 was doomed from the start, but my brother has an E90 M3 & he didn't enjoy the F80 (I was trying to sell it to him) either after a month he said no too, but there are plenty that like them so I'd say test drive one.
