So i picked up my 2007 E91 335i touring M sport yesterday. Cracking drive home and a lovely motor indeed.
But....i have been used to Tvr's etc for a few years and find the Bmw a little bit quiet in the exhaust department.

Any recommendations to give a fabulous power plant a more deserving sound ??

Cheers Sandy

Have you already unplugged the vacuum line?

If not, this will give the exhaust a bit more ooomph, although will still be some way away from TVR territory.

M-Performance exhaust is the best for these cars, but very rare to find. They are worth the search though.

Personally, I'm not sure if you can turn up to a dealer and buy it, especially as it's a 2007 model. I know the current 340i has that option, with a M-Performance pack with the black bumpers and decals, alongside the exhaust. It's still worth a try, ring a dealer and see if they can do it. Check realoem.com for parts as well, put your VIN in and look for the M-Performance exhaust part number and use that to try and find it either via BMW or eBay.

It was an option for these cars back when they came out i.e. it was something ordered for the car and was genuine BMW.

Cotsworld BMW should be able to get you the best price on the exhaust if they're still available.

They're still making them for the E9X so I would have thought you could get one.

You can have the BMW Performance mod done to your current exhaust.

The biggest difference between the bmw performance exhaust (PE) and the standard is there are 4 sections of perforated pipe in the standard exhaust and the PE has straight through pieces. Simply cutting out the 2 outermost sections of perforated pipe and welding straight through pieces on mods the exhaust to sound like the PE, but without the massive cost, it also stays quiet on the motorway, no drone. If you replace all 4 pieces it can drone.

I have had the mod done to my car (2 outermost sections only), it crackles on downshifts and on the overrun just like the PE.

The mod is done to the top of the backbox, so when re-fitted it looks stock.

Search 335i PE Mod for somewhere local.

Interesting! Will have to Google/Youtube that.
I asked my local dealer for an MPE, was quoted £1700 so looking for a cheaper solution!

That's not right.

It should be £700-£800.

Maybe he is quoting the B58's MPPSK which is a tune and fully switchable exhaust system.

The MPE for the N54/N55 is back box only and not switchable.

I had it on a 135i Coupe and loved it, got the MPPSK on my new 440i.

The PE is only the backboxes and tips. Bit of a rip off IMO.

Im running the PE and Evolve Catless downpipes. Not exactly coming from a TVR but my previous car was a 5.4 N/A AMG lump with exhaust mods, and whilst the N54 isn't quite as good (never was going to be was it) its a pretty awesome sound and it doesn't leave me disappointed.

Ill try and get some exhaust videos up soon with my Go Pro for you guys.

Before I changed the stock exhaust on my Z4 35iS (as it was rattling) I had a chap cut open the back boxes and wrap the pipes so in effect it was a straight pipe. I also had the mid cats removed, so it ended up being straight pipes off the downpipes. Oops - it was a laugh but totally ridiculous. After watching various Youtube videos I thought it would be different - but this thing sounded like a Spitfire on full chat, with all the associated bangs pops and overrun gun shots. I had to drive the bloody thing 1000 miles like it as well, across Europe. Ended up buying ear plugs. Best MPG I have ever obtained though, because I was hypermiling it to avoid any boost whatsoever, kept the noise down.

Arrived at my destination, found the nearest recommended fabricator and had a new exhaust custom made, and now I'm having valves fitted which can be activated via a keyfob. They have adjustable positioning and there are two valves, so you can have quiet and progressively louder.

I figured that nothing does what I want, it's much better to have control over the valves and then you can have the best of both worlds.

Cost me around £600 for the custom backboxes and mid resonator. Used as much of the original pipe as I could (as it's stainless from factory) and now the valves and wireless controllers are being added for £250 all in.
