Realised my boyhood dream yesterday after almost buying my first 911 countless times over the last 10 years. Gen 2 Carrara S with factory aero, manual and a few little mods:

Drives amazing, it’s in amazing condition for an 11 year old car, wonderful mix of modern and classic, great mechanical feel and noises - can’t see what else I could want even with a lottery win! Drives even better than I expected it to - super happy!
Nice! Well done - nice car. The slotted bonnet must be a mod; my 997.2 C2S Aero doesn't have it!
Agreed - so much better with thumbup

Yeah the GT3 “smile” was a retro fit. Also got Ohlins dampers, CSR cross over pipe, Zunnsport(sp?) grille covers, refurbed wheels in satin black with a lizard green pinstripe (painted not a sticker!), carbon tail pipes. It’s relatively light on spec, has extended leather, no PSE, no chrono no hardbacks - those things I “thought” were my must haves, but I don’t miss any of them! The car feels a great mix of special but every day useable, feels nice and compact and wears its Carrera White well.

Last decent owned performance car park as a Caterham, and was worried when people had said a C2S doesn’t feel special enough. It might be a honeymoon period thing, but it’s absolutely over delivering in every way for me!

Love the gear shift (although second is a little grumpy until up to temp), steering feel and ride control both sublime, noise could do with being a little more vocal but it does have a lovely old school sound.

Thanks for the good feedback, I’m having to get used to its presence as I don’t really like any attention from people that don’t appreciate why I’ve got it. I can’t see me changing this, and if anyone else out there is toying with the idea, my endorsement could not be higher.

Cannot imagine having more power for my roads and abilities, this is more than I need.

I have a sore neck from constantly going to the window or going out the front to water the plants, check the gates, remember what I’ve left in the car!!

Nice car. PSE well worth having though, like you said you're not missing it but that doesn't mean you wouldn't appreciate having it!

I was thinking about doing the gundo hack, or go for sports cats

Congratulations and well done!

In terms of sound, I highly recommend a "Gundo hack" of 1.5 inches diameter. It will sound just like the PSE with no drawbacks (apart from its always on, but that isn't an issue as such).

Cheers - I don’t want to add drone to the car when it’s part throttle - driving back home Saturday the tyre roar and ambient noise was loud enough, I wouldn’t want a droning exhaust.

A little more volume at WOT and higher revs would be nice though. I guess once I’ve done it I then have to pay to undo if it’s not for me

The Gundo Hack is really for a Gen 1, not a Gen 2, as it is a different set up.

They are a fair bit quieter the Gen 2s; a few of us on here got the Sharwerks exhaust to compensate.

Ah ok - that can integrate with the crossover pipe I already have ok? I’ll go YouTube it for sound clips!

Correct, my apologies I didn't pay attention to the fact this is a Gen 2 here!

FWIW, no drone at all from the "hack".

Excuse my ignorance but what is a Gundo Hack and could it work on 997.1 turbo? Any info appreciated.
Thanks

Pretty sure the gundo hack is more for C2 & C4/C4S Carrera cars. Im sure the Turbo Mezger engined cars have a totally different exhaust system.. which probably wouldn’t need any sound enhancement tbf. smile

My 2007 C2 manual, one previous owner. Probably changing this autumn, perhaps a 997.2 C4S, but have a few completely different test drives to do to decide.

(Seem to have a rear engined, water cooled, 2wd theme running in our household!).

Lovely!! I'm a sucker for a manual, vanilla c2. I have one myself, so I'm bound to say so wink
Seeing yours I question my choice of having put the 'S's double pipes on it (with an adaptor). I have to say the oval end pipes look really good!
scratchchin I might fit them again after all...

Regarding the perhaps upgrade: A good friend of mine has a low miles 997.2 C4S, although Targa and PDK. While the Targa has his nice sides, I have to be honest that I prefer my older, much higher mileage and much (!) cheaper 997.1 C2...

I'm not the only one who is of the opinion that with 911's, less is often more. driving

PS:

Am I the only one who thinks the 996/7's plain 'Carrera' badge looks best? The more letters and numbers it gets, the more fussy it looks...
Yes, the simple 'turbo' also looks bonkers.

Whilst we are on the topic, my manual c2. Almost a year in and getting to know it now. I’m sure a 997.2 c4s is a lovely thing but for twice the money? No thanks.

The badge is lovely and the word ‘Carrera’ has such connotations!

My issue with my C2 - apart from the black interior (if I keep it, I’m thinking speed yellow seat belts!) is partly the lightness (metaphorically, and at 1390kg odd, literally) and that on the open road it really only wants to go balls-out. Strangely, it is happy at 28mph on the school run though.

On the GT -> sports car continuum I’d like to dial it back a bit towards tourer.
