Think carefully before you go the semi solid engine mount route. Hopefully not teaching you to suck eggs, but Jake Raby of Flat Six Innovations is the US equivalent of Baz at Hartech:

I wonder if this also holds for the Mezger too though?
I doubt it The Cup uses solid (see image below) mounts, which are through bolted to the engine carrier. No NVH isolation AT ALL.
Whether the Cups use a different knock sensor, I'm not sure, but I doubt it. So I suspect the issue lies specifically with the M96 and 97.
No disrespect to it, but the Mezger is hoary old thing as engines go, but that in turn means it's tough and durable !! The Cup engine is a simplified version of the engine in your car, and I suspect even more durable if not regularly buzzed.
I know the chassis can crack due to fatigue in the area of the solid mounts on the Cup cars.
My guess is the PTV system used magnetorheological engine mounts to circumvent the issues with running heavy duty/solid engine mounts, but providing their benefits when needed, albeit without their downsides.

Evening chaps, GTS coupe pdk cars are ~65-70k.
Would it be foolish to buy right now - or buy the best car available?
Weekend use so miles will be kept low.
I am going to assume...Would it be foolish to buy right now - or buy the best car available?

Weekend car = it'll be your pride and joy.
Looking at cars priced £70K = you are doing well in life.
Ask yourself, is it really worth hanging around for a year or more to potentially save a thousand or so?
Life it short.
Where, when and how you are allowed to drive a ICE car freely, without restriction/penalty, is getting short.
Get on with it! (i say that in a polite and encouraging way).

Thinking of trading up from my 997.1 c2s (which has been fine tuned into a sport classic tribute) to a gt3.
I also run a n M3 csl.
Would the gt3 be similar in feel to the csl? C2s rides softer than csl but similar performance or should I aim for an rs?
Thoughts welcome.
The GT3 won’t ride anything like your C2S. It’s a far more hardcore affair much like the CSL, limited sound deadening, heavy controls & stiff suspension (mine is even stiffer due to ohlins). Not tried an RS, but imagine it’s a step further to the extreme.I also run a n M3 csl.

My non-RS never disappoints, and the thought of wanting more of a hardcore experience hasn’t ever crossed my mind. I struggle to imagine the CSL will be less civilised that’s for sure, my old E46 M3 was a wonderful thing but not exactly a scalpel.

All subjective I think a 997 C2S more enjoyable on road than any GT model TBH. Will be next 964 good ones you watch. Won't matter in a few years whether gen 1 or gen 2. Get Baz to 4.0 a C2S and add decent coil overs would be the way I go if just one car. That red C2S above looks so cool imo.

I'm with you on this! But I'd include the vanilla C2 as the difference becomes more negligible the older they get. If you put coil overs in, it doesn't matter since you most likely ditch the C2S's PASM anyhow.
Slightly bigger brakes aside, in the end it comes down to 0.2l and 30 hp difference. The C2 still is fast enough to be enjoyable and can get the 3.9 treatment as well.
Oh, and halogen headlamps add to the retro charm
