Sorry Cunno, would yoy mind elaborating a little more on the conrod and pins point in layman's terms? Thanks
To upgrade the 3.6 engine using porsche motorsport or gen 2 RS parts i.e. Piston and liners there is an issue as the piston connecting pins are a different size between the 3.6 and 3.8 engine. 22mm in a 3.6 piston while the 3.8 has 23mm pin. Therefore you need to either change the conrods at £700 each + vat, or modify the existing 22mm on the Conrod to except a 23mm pin. Ever way it's more expensive and labour to build a 3.8 engine.

Cunno, regarding the pads, I have the pagid RSL29's on order at present. Are these the ones you refer to as having the better bite vs the RS series or the other way round? Sorry wasn't clear to me. Thanks.

I had the RSL29 and RS14 recommended
Yes these are the replacements for the discontinued RS29's they have much better bite when first applying the brakes imo.

The other thing I'd recommended if your tracking is don't bother with the Porsche motorsport diff plate on a 997, to get the best out of the car and to stop the electronics messing about go GT with 40/60 ramps. This works but takes time to get use to.
I've done some reading around and starting to understand this a bit more now. So 40/60 seems to be fairly well accepted so makes sense. On the diff itself, Cunno, Steve, is the Guards Club diff good enough or is there a material benefit to spending more on the Pro. It is only for track days not racing, so I was thinking the Club will suffice? But hard to find comparisons on them online
Sorry can't answer this as I bought a used second hand GT diff and don't know which type of plates are in it.
I tried the Porsche MS diff plates first and while they help tie down the rear of the car under braking they didn't help stop the excessive rear brake wear due to the car electronics assisting the diff by applying the rear brakes. The Guard Diff with steeper ramp angles does as the diff is doing more work, brake pads last twice as long now at the rear.

Reading through your thread you haven't mentioned changing the final drive in the gear box? A much cheaper gain than converting engine capacity. You can either use the Motorsport cup final drive which I have in my car, or use the 4.0 RS part.

Yep, the club diff will be just fine. Dont put too much pre load on it and it will be fine for the road and nice on the track - I will keep the car very stable under braking on a trail.

Think that the upgrade quote on a 3.6 cup to 3.8 using motorsport parts was circa £10k parts and labour. I hadnt heard of the conrod pin issue but I would imaging that the common solution must be a modification to the existing rods. If it were a predominantly road build I'd be tempted to cam and map it for a torque benefit. I could beat the 3.8 Cups on fresh tyres but once they started to wear the 3.8 drivers (who to be fair knew wht they were doing) just threepenny bitted the corners and cannoned out of the corners on the torque gain.

BBS LM's went straight on....

Nice project!
Are those 18's or 19's? I've been trying to find 19's for my car but from what I can see on the BBS site, they don't list a 997.1 fitment

Hi Cunno, thanks again for the extra advice above. All duely noted and very useful. On the final drive this for sure os something I would like to do but no one in the UAE who can do it I'm afraid so something for next summer as will need to the box somewhere. Have spoken to Manthey about it though and they have been very insightful. Likewise for the engine upgrade.

Thanks. Yes they are 19's: 8.5x19 front and 11x19 rear both 50 offset as per below inc the part numbers. I guess 18's technically best for the track but for the looks I went 19's....

Thanks, that's very helpful. I agree on the look of 19's. Are you running 305's on the rear?

Yes but likely going to keep the LM's for road use and get a set of FI's for the track given big weight savings and they do those in 12 inch wide which I believe it the stock GT3 rear wheels but still 305 tyres - they look more stretched

Yes, standard wheels are 12 inch. I'm running 305/30's and they look about right. 11 inch with 50 offset (vs 68 offset on 12's) will actually sit about 5mm further out. Which is no bad thing. Handy calculator here:

He he he.... honestly wasn't the motivation but doesn't hurt to have some nice background eye candy : ) no unfortunately not, just a humble C2 that had the body kit installed onto it way back in the day and has remained the sane since.
