Not so bad thanks.
Yes I do kind of believe that - have you considered some sort of counselling at all, it might work out cheaper than buying new cars ??

I appreciate this is primarily a Manual thread and maybe us auto boys should have our own. wink

But as my query applies across the .2GT3 spectrum but is not really an order and spec matter I thought I’d raise it here.

Starting from cold, we have the little blue engine warning light for a while during the early part of the warm up phase. However, what I have noticed on my car is that the oil and coolant temperatures continue to rise pretty much together within a degree or so of each other, albeit when fully warmed up they finish at different temperatures.

This has surprised me slightly as on almost all other cars I have owned the coolant comes up to operating temperature much faster than the oil. It almost seems as though either this is a specific .2 GT3 warm up characteristic or alternatively the coolant thermostat on my car is stuck open.

Anyone else observed this?

I am very happy this thread exists. My brain was starting to think PDK might be the way to go if I ever get the chance. Manual all the way thumbup

Yes mine does the same . Warms up much quicker than my GT4 and as you say oilwarms up as quick as water . I'm assuming it's due to the low volume of oil in this engine due to the hollow crank and solid lifters . I'm sure I'd read somewhere something like 50% less oil than gen 1 or something crazy like that .

Oil warms up in 991.1 GT3/RS much quicker than 981 Spyder/GT4 - maybe 1/3 of the time for it to warm up smile

Thanks guys.

That's interesting, I hadn't thought of it as oil warming more quickly and rather saw it as the coolant taking longer than usual to come to temperature. No matter as long as the behaviour is normal that's all that matters. smile

What I do like is the oil being at 85C to 90C and none of this 110C you get in normal mode with other 991 engines including 580hp turbo S. frown

I assume the oil warms up more slowly in a GT3 because it is a dry-sumped engine and the oil is therefore stored in a separate tank - rather than in the bottom of the engine as in other models.

Guys

Wonder could any of you guys who use the car a lot could comment on the usuability of the car in daily traffic?

I'm currently going through a garage rationalisation. I have a Ferrari 458 as a "special" car that does nothing for me whatsoever. I think its not the car, just the time of my life with 4 young kids that I never get a window to use it.

As a daily I'm using a 997 Turbo Manual, which I genuinely use every day, going to the shops, in and out of work in a lot of stop/start traffic, you name it I do it, no fear about bringing it anywhere.

I had been thinking of switching the 997 Turbo for a 991 Turbo S, but recently I've started thinking of selling the 458, and just getting 1 car to do everything.

I have ny name down for a GT3 and not sure if I will get an allocation but if it does come to pass it seems like its potentially exactly what I want. All the 911 usability but still rewarding for a weekend drive.

So just wondering about owners experiences with the car, at least those of you who are driving them as I describe above and not weekend toys.

How is the manual in crawling traffic and would it ever make you wish you had PDK? How is the ride quality in the softest suspension settings on bad roads? etc etc

Realy fascinated to hear owners opinions on how genuinely usable the car would be as a daily?

GTS Cabriolet PDK as a daily, GT3 manual as a weekend car - easy

Manual GT3 is the only car you'll ever need - bar for an RS on top of it

Mine's a weekend car but just took it out during early part of rush hour and it was so easy compared to my old 996GT3 or even my air-cooled.

The ride quality for such a car is fantastic, it's quiet and torquey at low revs and the gearbox/clutch light in traffic. Of course that's not why I bought it but you could use it as a daily quite easily.

I would say however there are plenty of other 911s more suited to everyday use and for me the GT3 is a special car for the open road or track. Just this latest model is the most user friendly yet.

Hope that helps.

Yes I second Browngt3's comments there. Mines also a weekend car but you could use it everyday, especially if you're used to using a 997 Turbo now.

Ride is excellent, clutch light enough and unless you're up in the mid to high rev ranges it's reasonably quiet however not nearly as quiet as a turbo. There is a fair amount of induction noise especially if you heel and toe as throttle blips give an induction suck, for want if a better word.

If you went Touring this might not be the case as you lose the ram air effect.

My everyday choice would be the turbo S but you could use a GT3.
