Drove the manual GT3 at the PEC today. My first time in the new gen car. I was expecting a slight upgrade on the Gen 1 car I owned for three years but was absolutely astonished at how far they have moved things forward. It seems much more torquey and free revving and the noise is just incredible. It feels like a completely superior car in every way. If it did not look so similar you would think it a complete new generation car.

It was cold and damp today and took a while to warm the tyres up but that just added to the fun. This car is just a monster. It’s also extremely good value for money IMHO vs the competition.

Jaw dropping good. Cannot wait to drive one on the road and on bigger circuits.

Well I still haven’t reached the front of the que for a new GT3 so for the time being I’ve opted for a nice spec .1 with PCCB’s. Funny thing I had the stripe kit fitted at my request!

Massive thanks to Jon and Justin at Porsche Mayfair for great service and arranging a perfect handover ??
Looking good big boy.

^This (the bit in bold) is really interesting. We've come to expect big changes on the generational breaks; 996 to 997, 997 to 991, but more iterative changes between the .1 and .2 versions.

Re the Spyder - I can’t tell you why it feels brilliant - but I can tell you that it absolutely does - that car is the bargain of the century - it’s such a well sorted bundle of joy smile
It would be amazing with a little more power
I obviously wouldn't refuse more power , but did I the NC500 in a Spyder last autumn with a pal in is 991 Turbo Cab . . He had significantly more power but I know which car we'd both rather have driven ....( but agree 430 ish would be great )

Edit : I now have a Manual 991.2 GT3 ( which is the best car I've ever owned ) but would be still be a tough choice to choose it over a Spyder on that route . ( convertible / ground clearance / fractionally smaller / touch softer sprung )

I think the GT3 comment says a huge amount about the Spyder smile

It is....it's something that was hinted at by various journalists in those first vid's at Anglesea last summer.

You might feel differently when you get your GT3. The Spyder is fun and roof down on a lovely day especially so, but it ain't no GT3 imo.

Don't the spyder and GT3 aim to do different things?
which one is better/ more enjoyable depends on your mood and what your after, no?

both great cars
I'd love a spyder, but not instead of a GT3.

This is the slippery slope to building a collection smile There's a Porsche for every occasion!

Rather: You can never have enough GT Porsches in your garage...

I'd hope not; it's nearly 1/2 the price of a GT3 smile

Of course, but since the two cars were being compared...

And the NC500 on a nice day with the roof down is exactly what it's good for . I completely agree it's not a GT3 ..... but then that's not what I claimed smile

One car garage I'll keep my manual GT3 but a Spyder of either variant would certainly have its uses in a two car garage ... The world is not black and white .

Half the price but nowhere near only half the fun.
I’m sure the GT3 is fantastic, would like one. Not sure I’d enjoy it hugely more than my 997RS though.
Alps, early air cooled all day. Spyder second.
