I am pretty sure I have heard the turbo units on the standard Carrera and hence the T are different than the S, pretty sure it was mentioned in Harry M’s video.

I think he said the T doesn’t have variable geometry of the S turbo units... but I couldn’t say how that changes the driving characteristics of one versus the other.

Over to someone more informed... please.

You're thinking about the 718 Boxster/Cayman. Base versions have normal turbos fixed size… S versions have variable vane technology which was previously exclusive to the 911 Turbo/S.

I've either driven or owned all iterations of the 991.2 and can categorically say that by far the least enjoyable to drive is the 420hp S. The base 370hp version is plenty quick enough for the road and has virtually no lag..The 450hp GTS version which i've just sold is a wondrous machine and the best version and absolutely undetectable lag...it is the best car i've ever owned.
Initially i was very sceptical about the T and expressed those views on this thread however my stance has altered somewhat and i now get the T !. Trouble is i've owned a 991.2GTS and picking up a new GT3 next week so just maybe if i drove the T it would feel like a step backwards in performance terms. Despite this i've specced my ideal T which is a white or yellow one, manual, buckets,PCCBs,RWS and absolutely no weight adding options which would ruin the lightweight ethos and consequently push the price into GTS territory.
It sounds like a great car in my ideal spec but it'll never hold a candle to the GTS IMO.
Whatever anybody does make sure you spec RAS and manual but avoid the heavy glass sunroof.
Taffy, had you a GT4 as well? I'm thinking of changing from one to a T, the rear seats would let me use it more.
I had a brief drive in a pdk gts, I found it a bit "refined". Hence I'm dithering a bit - well alot actually...just wondering if you had one to give a longer term opinion? Ta.

I totally agree with this - I think the GTS has different turbos to the S and they stay spooled when you are off the power for a time so hence when you get back on the power - no lag.

I also didn’t get the T to start but it is now making a lot of sense to me. Doesn’t make sense if you already have a GTS but if you’re looking to buy it throws up a very interesting alternative of a lightweight car, greater than the sum of its parts and that you can give full beans on the road.

Seems I’m following the same path as Taffy as I’ve also got a GT3 coming in the New Year and I think I’m going to miss my GTS big time - for me too the best car I have owned to date. I hope the GT3 lives up to it as its going to be my daily for 6 months at least.

Would have thought rws would one of the least desirable options, in terms of priority, on a car like the T....especially at the price!

Why do you think it a necessity on the T Taff?
Well it goes back to last February when i was doing my final spec on my May built GTS and was undecided on RAS..On the advice of a fellow welshman I R Evans(who used to post on Rennlist) i went to Silverstone and tested both RAS and non RAS 991.2S's.I was surprised at how much understeer the non RAS car had on the limit which i disliked, but in total contrast the RAS car was transformed and understeer was banished and the improved agility was also welcome.
Ironically the RAS's was of greatest benefit to the front end which hooked better in all corners..As the T is seen as a more of a drivers car than the standard 991 it seems sensible to me to add all performance enhancing options like PCCB and RAS to the T but avoid weight adding options like the plague.
Incidentally the last time i checked, RAS was unavailable on the basic 370hp 991 so i would tick all the T's unique boxes like RAS and LWBS to make it extra special..My only difficult choice personally is to go for White or Racing yellow..
Life sure is tough at the top..;)biggrin

I had a GT4 for 18mths and 3600 miles and a PDK 991.2GTS coupe for five months and 1600 miles and i loved both cars equally albeit for different reasons. I wasn't particularly over enamoured with the non RAS 991.2S but the GTS IMO is a car which is greater than the sum of its parts.I loved everything about the GT4 except the 2/3 gears being too long which to me took the sparkle away from the performance.
In the correct spec i could find no fault in the GTS except maybe it was too bloody perfect for its own good if you enjoy the traditional 991 driving traits.
Rather bizarrely i'm looking forward to the reviews for the T more than any recent Porsche due to my fascination to see if Porsche have made another 991 iteration which is greater than the paper spec would suggest aka GTS.

I have a confession to make - I ended up buying that actual car that Harry tested. It was great, personally I hardly felt any Turbo lag and think it's because it's not tuned to give a big lump of torque in one go. The old 991.1 was gutless at the very bottom so for me the differece was negligible - until it picked up speed and then it just flew

Well done you Jacko, I hope you have enjoyed it to the full.

Do you still have it and do you like the red dash?

No, moved on to a GTS recently and so love it, I wasn't sure about the full red interior until I saw it but it was really nice, black mats broke it up a bit and finished it off for me. Ironically, I saw a u tube video today about a much older 911 and he was saying it was the best Porsche he ever had because it wasn't as fast so you could keep your foot down longer. I sort of think the same could apply to a 911T.

That's a great spec and very close to what i would pick..This new T is crying out for PCCBs,LWBS and close ratio manual IMO.

I was called earlier this week by my Porsche Centre and given my build date and anticipated delivery date - end of March.

Very excited to be honest, am like a kid before Christmas already.

Placed my order within a couple of days of the model being announced, was just what I wanted.

Cheers Taffy66, those 3 just seemed obvious for this car 👌

I have specced mine up as well. Not ordered yet as I really want to know more about the ratios in the close ratio box. Does anybody know yet? I was a bit disappointed at the 20kg weight difference so don't want to be disappointed with the gearbox as well.

think on rennlist someone analysed the top speed & 0-60 time of the Carrera T (as provided in press release from Porsche) and deduce that the "shorter gearing" is most probably the same gearing as already existing in the manual boxes on the S and GTS. The original 991.2 carrera manual had slightly longer gearing I believe

My Porsche Centre have said that they are unlikely to accept any further orders due to allocation numbers in 2018.

I wouldn’t hang about if I was you.

Clearly just anecdotal, I have no idea about the picture nationally.

I'd guess if you haven't ordered and placed a deposit by now you'll struggle. I know that GTS "British Racing Legends" was sold out in two days...that's definitely a limited edition but the all 911's are effectively the same. They make X amount of each derivative each year and that's it....if an OPC has a build slot for a 911 Targa they can't just swap it for a T unless another OPC will do it.
