Thanks for the reply. I am not knocking tuning.

The BGB ECU is a second physical ECU that MTO/Ehresmann cloned and then replaced the OEM maps with a custom tune, so as you describe your process. The owner keeps the original ECU for service purposes; that's the theory but of course original ECU operating hours v dash mileage will ultimately become difficult to reconcile. It's the same process used on my early 2015 tuned 3.8L in my 981 CS, except I didn't see a benefit in having an original "frozen in time" ECU to protect my warranty by "stealth" particularly as there were other visually obvious changes.

On torque, ZF show 750Nm capacity although whether this is entirely correct I am not sure. The 9x1 PDK was rated at 420Nm which is what that of series engines maxed out at, but I was told by ZF they were good for 500Nm.

So did bit of desktop research on this topic. Seems some piggy back modules aren't that reliable. They work by telling the ECU for example that its not making enough boost and then the ECU compensates. Quite a few stories of cels and cars going into limp mode etc.

Its Techart and TUV approved so hopefully you won't have the same issues as other people have had. Quite a few tuners using piggy back for 991.2. I'm surprised that there aren't more tuning solutions out there for the 991.2 turbo S. Porsche seem to have made the ECU very difficult to crack as they have been out 18 months now.
The ECU was broken finally end of last week. There will be a lot of offerings on the table soon.
Why so long to break an ECU?

Because it was difficult to do/other work to carry out?

In simple terms it is like breaking into someones computer that has a very long password that has millions and millions of possibilities. I know the last time (previous ECU) someone was paid a very high 5 figure sum to do it. Then it gets sold around. If you ever wonder why tuning is so expensive on the latest ECUs, it is because someone has to recoup the outlay.

And the issue is that even when it is broken, you need to be able to read out and write back. Generally now you have to bench flash the ECU first, and then you can open up the ODB port, so that you can read and write using a cable for revisions.

Sorry so long for an update.

I had an old lady reverse in the side of my car at the back end of last year taking so my vehicle was incapacitated for quite some time while the insurance companies did their best to try and get me to accept having the repaid done at a non porsche approved garage! after 2 months of fighting with them the car was repaired by Porsche Reading and came back like new.

I opted for the T1.1 upgrade and have now had the car back for about 6 weeks and I have to say 'Amazing'... I am so happy with the work the guys did at Tech 9. I have completely fallen back in love with driving the car. It feels like a completely different animal. Whereas before it felt like a beast in chains that could never quite deliver what it was capable of, it now feels totally unchained. There feels like there is so much more urgency in the engine, especially at lower revs where the power was missing before. i appreciate it is only 60 more bhp and on paper % wise its not a lot, but the car just feels totally different. if you put it in sport or sport + mode (basically all the time redface)) then i feel like I need to concentrate on driving the car whereas before it didn't feel that way. it also has the advantage that if my wife ever drives the car, then in normal mode there is no change the car so she is still happy.

As to the exhaust noise... wow..... totally different car. Deep, throaty, loud, backfires on changing down gears... everything you want from a high performance car.

On top of it all the guys at Tech9 have been amazing. Their level of service throughout couldn't have been better and they have been so helpful.

I really couldn't recommend the upgrade more. It unchains the capabilities of the vehicle and has certainly put a smile on my face when i drive the car.

sounds cool did you have the PDK shift upgraded also. I see that's an option now after market to speed it up GT3 like.

I didn't. TBH I had not seen that was available. I can't find it on the TECHART website? Do you have any links?

The only reference I can see is that the T2.1 kit includes TECHART PDK gearbox management. Not sure if this speeds things up or is just about coping with the increased output from the T2.1 kit?

OP how are you getting on with your techart ecu and exhaust? Has it been reliable and would you recommend it?

Thats a GT3? A turbo will never sound like this. Interested in techart solution as its piggy back and doesn't interfere with Porsche ECU. When you take it off its virtually undetectable in theory but on the other side of the coin I hear these new piggy back solutions are inherently unreliable hence the question re reliability to OP.

Kline Innovation released a video of an inconel exhaust for the 991 Turbo recently. Doesn't sound half bad imho

Hey Paul

Any update on your car and Techart mods? Would love to know how you're getting on with it?

Surely having more performance is not going to make it more exciting? Wouldn’t the money be better spent on working the suspension to make it feel more alive and better feedback? Also with a full exhaust setup?
