To be fair to those suggesting GT4s, I too thought your original question was an open one and that you had just mentioned two GT3 variants to your friend as a starting point to open the discussion. From my own and friends' experiences the GT4 is a very accomplished country crosser and fun on the big tracks. Many years ago we used to all be in aircooled 911s for our annual trip to Spa. Nowadays we're almost all in GT4s and Cayman Rs. It's a lot less sweaty at the dinner table in the evenings now! biggrin
Ok Boxsey,

I will take 911R and your advice and advise him to test drive a GT4.

Thanks, I’m listening.

Yes this bloke uses his cars and has minimum interest in investment potential. Like all of us he’d prefer not to lose a hefty percentage but that is not the primary criteria of the purchase.
get a well used 7.2gt3 sp it's less mileage sensitive and some mild tweaks (lighter wheels, remove side mufflers and some proper motorsport suspension) and it's all the car one would ever wish for on the road and track. Plus everything is reversible so you can always revert to stock in case of selling (even though it'd be a bit weird to make it worse to sell but that's what people tend to want ie originality).

P.S I can't agree with the above post choice of the .1rs tbh. it's way too similar to the .1gt3 for a heck of a lot more premium imo.

The only stupid factor on this thread is you.

It is not a continent crossing vehicle, period.

It will not cross continents as comfortably as a GT3 in comfort.

.

ps I have not once said get the GT4, I am asking you to think about what you are saying, as it's comic stuff atm.
I am biting my Tongue now :-)

In my experience and in 7.2 guise, the RS is more comfortable in terms of suspension set-up than the stock GT3. The stock GT3 is just a bit less obiovus for daily driving than a stickered RS with red wheels etc

Nothing wrong with a decal - very subtle smile

I was looking for something similar a few years ago and like your friend, come from a racing background. I chose 997.1 club sport because I felt at the time it offered better value than the gen 2 as the performance of both cars is very similar. The GT4 was not an option at the time but I’ve since had experience in the car. It’s very good but the 911 will offer him a lot more reward, an extra dimension that he will enjoy

My advice to him would be to buy a 997GT3 - either gen 1 gen 2 as he will find either car very rewarding to drive. Most experienced racing driverS that I know seek more than just speed from a road car and this is where the GT3 will really deliver. Both generations are very tuneable and offer a lot more performance potential for not a huge amount of money if he wanted. The 991 GT3 is also a very good car but I’d still advise him to go for a 997 on engagement and reward grounds.
