Discussion
Hi all- I know this probably has been done to death and is subjective but any pointers as to which tyres give the best balance between grip and performance particularly on our greasy slippery roads? Couple of times the arse end of the car has stepped out on fairly dry roads with not a huge amount of throttle, happy with that of course, and expected, but wondered if anyone has nailed the “perfect” tyre for the v8 to get maximum power down?
Thanks
Edit* want a tyre for all year round driving, not for track use, just crappy British road use!

Before concluding on the tyres:
Have you got Sports or Lightweight seats?
Manual or Sports shift?
(Just to help keep it going for 57 pages).
Seriously though, I put Michelin PS4s on my RS4 and it transformed the car in the conditions you explain. (From Pirelli). Will put the same on my V12VS when it's time.

OK so here is my two cents worth.......
On my BMW X5 I have Bridgestone Duellers..... I didn't choose them.... they came shod like that.
On the Aston Martin DB9 I have Bridgestone Potenza things.... Once again, I didn't choose them.
I used to have a BMW M3... It came with Michelins and they were fantastic. they wore out a little too fast.... mostly because I was having too much fun with them.
In short, get the Pilot Sports.... you won't regret it. I'm sort of looking forward to the X5 and the Aston ones wearing out so I can get the Michelins too.

Another vote for PS4S's here.
I changed my 911 from OEM Bridgestone Potenza's to Cup 2's then to PS4S's and in my opinion there was no loss in dry grip between Cups and PS4S and they are better in cold weather and standing water. The Michelins are worlds better than Bridgestones, turn in was significantly better and the ride more compliant.
I've got about 2mm to wear off the Bridgestones on my V8VS before swapping to PS4S's. Might order some soon before the spring rush makes them tricky to get hold of.

If you drive a Vantage V8 with sizes 245/40 R19 and 285/35 R19 you can rule out Michelin since they do not manufacture (front-) tyres in that size approved for sale into Europe. Sadly, since the PS4S is considered to be among the best tyres for luxury sports cars.
The best tyre in above mentioned sizes would be the Continental SportContact 6 - and that one is available in Europe.
When I looked recently Goodyear (Eagle F1 - 3), Pirelli (Corsa) and Bridgestone (S007) did not offer sports tyres in above sizes.
I certainly would not recommend older tyre designs as the Bridgestone RE50.

Michelin Pilot Super Sports are still available in the above sizes as an alternative to the ones you are suggesting.Mansfield said:

When I was looking for tyres a few weeks ago, Michelin Customer Services originally stated, as you have above, that PSS is available in 245/40x19. I was really pleased as I'd used PSS on my last 911 and they really were superb tyres. However, when I came to try to order, I couldn't find this size anywhere - including Michelin's UK website. To clarify things, I contacted Michelin's Customer Services again and had the enquiry escalated. This was the reply:In short - Michelin doesn't make a matched set of tyres for V8V with 245/40x19 on the front! The only Michelin option is standard PS4 (245/40x19) on the front and PS4S (285/35x19) on the rear.

Is there not an issue with regards to warranty. I seem to recall talking to an AM dealer and he said he has to put AM approved tyres on a car for it to get a 'Timeless' warranty. Or is that bks?
The dealer should fit the car out with approved tyre fitment as part of Timeless scheme .....they cannot supply it on a set of Wingwangwongs from china. You can put whatever you like on it generally. However if you have a serious accident, accident investigators will check to see if you have approved tyres in the correct sizes, just in case they contributed to the accident.
If you can get Pilot Super Sport (PSS) these are excellent. They have been superceded by Pilot Sport 4S (dont forget the 'S' on the end) but the former is a tyre that absolutely transformed mine in place of the AMR approved Crapstones it came on.
