2014 Cayman 2.7 coming up to 40,000 miles. Under extended warranty to May 2019.

My usual OPC (Sytner Leics) are quoting £1,022.66 inc. VAT for this major service including:
- Brake fluid change
- Spark plugs
- Chassis inspection
- Drive belt inspection
The service receptionist was keen to tell me Porsche operate "fixed price servicing", which made me think it perhaps wasn't?

My next nearest OPC is Sytner Sutton Coldfield who did undercut their sister OPC in 2015 when quoting for cruise to be retro fitted.
But are there deals to be done on servicing too?

Thanks for any info.

had my car serviced at Sutton - good price. Ask for Sharon - brilliant service advisor. I think you can negotiate a bit

How much was cruise control to have it retrofitted if you dont mind me asking?

TIA

BTW average major service is approx 950-1200.

I think cruise was £500 incl? Iirc the correct price was £550 so not much of a saving but Leics wouldn't budge. I dealt with Avril in 2015 but I think she moved to Wolves when they were supposed to be closing SC and moving, as did Dave the service manager who did the cruise deal.

They seem a little more relaxed and friendly at SC and the trip over there to see a client the other week took less time than I thought, about the same as Leics. Plus, I've had a couple of "run-ins" with Leics. Twice I've booked the car in, turned up, and what they said over the phone wasn't the case. 1/ Quoted for 4 tyres £10 more than my local tyre co. - arrived, price quoted was for TWO tyres! DP later apologised after listening to the call where his service guy does quote the price for all four. 2/ Speaker buzz warranty claim - booked in for this specific item - arrived, it's a chargeable repair as the car is in year three of its warranty.

I'll give SC a call...

I've spoken to SC and Vanya said she'd see what the service manager would do, as an existing customer.

Phoned me back and pitched me an excellent all-in price so now booked in early March, with a Macan for the day.
Leics gave me a Merc 220d last time. Not a nice drive.

I guess chassis check is:

I bought some Halfords tyre gunk (Two for £9) on a BOGOF offer last months as my Porsche gunk will be out of date in Feb.
I'm aware usage of gunk renders the tyre scrap, but I wonder if the OPC will tell me that non-Porsche gunk will invalidate my warranty? (Chuckles to self)

I think the 1ltr Mobil 1 in the zip up case is standard?

Well they list servicing prices on their site which is probably fixed: https://www.porsche.com/uk/accessoriesandservice/p...

But it's all the additional maintenance (check vs replace drive belt, spark plugs, brake fluid etc) where the variation likely is.

So at 8 litres (I think) you're paying an extra £50 and I wouldn't be bothered about that personally. All part of the Porsche tax.

There's no way I'd ever consider taking my own oil to a main dealer - I'd be concerned about being tagged as an awkward customer.

In all seriousness, it's very possible they will do exactly that at the next inspection.

I always expect some bizarre conversation when dealing with an OPC. Logic doesn't enter into it.

There's also the prospect of the lovely offer of a "health check video" (sales opportunity), and the ominous phone call just after lunch when they say something along the lines of... "We've inspected your tyres/discs/pads and they could do with changing. Would you like us to...?"

Dunno about that, Even after supplying my own oil the GT4 service was nearly a grand. I'm pretty sure they were looking to charge me £180 for oil I paid £40 for on special. Maybe you are in a different income bracket to me, but I consider £140 a nice meal for two. Why throw it away?!

I'm not on the income bracket of many on here - I run one car, albeit a Cayman GTS, and I don't throw money away.

£140 saving is a lot more than the £50 I calculated based on the example given earlier. I think 7.5 litres is the capacity of the 3.4ltr engine.

Opie Oils = £70.50 for 8 litres
OPC = £15(?) x 8 = £120

Unless an OPC charges vastly more than £15 a litre the difference is £50ish. I'd live with that for the lack of hassle on both their part and mine.

Just had a mad thought re: oil...

At a major service the oil IS included in the price, yes? Rather than being added under "fluids" or "parts" etc?

Getting very cynical in my old age!

Paid 1050 for my 4yr recently.

Yes you could get cheaper at an Indy but the coffee isn’t as good. And they don’t give you 911 as courtesy cars.

If you average over four years with the minor cost it’s still not bad. At least we don’t have mega depreciation to also deal with.

Had a fixed price service at an opc. Got phoned up to ask if I wanted the brake fluid change. I said yes of course it's part of the service. Oh no it's not it's extra as it's optional. I asked if it was due. Oh yes always due at those miles. So in what way was it optional, not part of the service and thus an extra? Needless to say I lost. So I refused, went to gt one to get it done and used Indies from that point.

So I guess they lost really!

Regarding taking your own oil in...I had two tubs of oil sitting in the car for the OPC to use (tech I spoke to actually said to do this) for my service said they don’t allow customers to supply their own oil, I questioned this and was told as they cannot be sure it’s the correct grade for the car (same Mobil 1 as they sell) and informed them that’s the oil I want in my car, service guy goes off to speak to the service manager and returns to say “it’s for the warranty audit” and they have to show the oil being taken from the stores to use for the service.

In my thirty five years of driving I’ve never heard so much pish from a main dealer justifying ripping you off, that day my car got an MOT, major service, plugs, brake fluid plus two years warranty renewal and to top it all they even charged for the 111 point check....I was not fking happy and still not fking happy about it.
