Lovely cars. Any driving enthusiast who can raise the steam should aspire to owning an analogue GT3. They really are some of the most rewarding drives ever built. It is such a shame to see so many wrapped up in collections

Yes, there's a bloke on first or second page of the thread, near me, who's sold a 997.2. I think, in fact, he had the 991 at the same time, at any rate, he's regretted selling the 997.2 RS.

Don't sell it and don't stop using in for what it was intended for. thumbup

I have to agree. Last manual RS will always be a bit special. No matter how fast and capable the 991.1 and .2 will be.. although in their favour is the fact they will remain the last n/a.

So all unique in their own ways. And one day we will look at the switch from n/a to Turbo like we look at air vs liquid cooled.. with a bit of nostalgia but the new technology will improve and make it lovable.

Porsche have pretty much held out to the last in this regard. Ferrari have already capitulated and added turbos to the 488. Most BMW "M" cars - earlier iterations of which were and still are go-to track cars - have not only added turbos but also severely blunted driver involvement and track capability in many cases.

997.2 GT3 RS seems to me to potentially be the high water mark for raw, analogue driver's cars. We'll see faster cars, no doubt (that's a given, because all the manufacturers are going to want us to spend on "shiny new"), but the quality of the experience I'm less sure of.

If I was in the position of having a 997.2 RS and got an allocation for a 991.2 GT3 RS I don't think I could bring myself to trade in the 997.2....I'd want a good year or so of owning both cars before making the decision. Granted this would mean finding an extra £150k to £200k from the bank balance though!

Hi there - truth is, unfortunately you'd probably have to - having the £k150 to £k 200 is irrelevant - you need the "chip" to get anywhere near the 991.2RS (I know your post said "if" and is entirely hypothetical - but you get my drift - no pun intended) smile

I’ve seen two of these on the road in the last week, one a “Spider-Man” without decals and a white/red one with a 555 number plate. Christ they look so good on the road. The want is strong !

Now you have the 991.2 i am shocked you want the old RS, what do you think the new cars lacking over the car you own.

As you know I was going to flip mine for the RS it is a straight swap really now, but there is no way I could do it the new cars too good, only advantage is coolness, , looks and investments, I could not swap the new engine for the old one, it’s that simple.

None get used so they cannot be that good other wise people would drive them lol and thats a serious comment as really I only know of 2 or 3 used cars the rest are garage queens like the posters above. (Sorry)

Race car for the road also a rubbish statement back up at last from the cup vs gt2 car vid, but people have been saying race car for the road for, well ever and it’s nothing like one.

It’s the coolest Porsche for sure, and I saw my future wife in one, it was a double take, saw my fav colour combo white with wise gold, then a 2nd look had a female pilot ! Love.....

I have been in many 997 and the clutches just ruin the car for me, the gear change vs a GT4 or GT3 feels like a bag of nails, and I don’t care what any one says the mezger don’t make for a nice road engine for my use. The new cars is usable, such a masterpiece of a car and my biggest worry was it was going to be a poor road engine, but it’s amazing, and the eps which again is night and day better over a GT4 or 991.1 car so much so eps in the 991.2 GT3 is a none issue. Which for me makes it the best manual GT3 Porsche have ever made. I feel very lucky and super happy to own such a rare car. I have no words how good it is over my GT4.

Porsche 911R , Sure you are really nice chap and would like to meet sometime , but as not a big Track day attendee myself may not happen . I see them as just a good time socialise with mates while doing a few laps with no pressure associated with race days .
But I feel the new cars and tyres really are very capable even against race cars and much closer than they were .
Love my team mate ( 15 years in endurance Porsches ) attitude to track days , does two laps , and bored so that is it , as nothing to be achieved . But he is like that in Qualifying as well , out lap , hot lap and in . I pound around and cannot get close .
Anyway cannot understand your post ...... maybe got my Sunday morning head on

Driven both 991.2 manual and 997.2 RS, and I prefer how the latter drives and makes me feel. I have zero issues with mezgers on the road and only ever hear of it as an issue from one poster here (not having a dig, just stating an objective observation)

No right answer anyway - some may prefer the other way and that's absolutely fine. All GT cars are brilliant machines.

Of course, some economics does factor in. At list price, the new car is a compelling economic proposition. At the peak overs (£175k+) the old car was a more attractive economic proposition.

Mine was out in Europe last week. It was in its element.

Was thinking of chopping in my 997.2GT3RS for a 991.2GT3RS (second batch, if they ever appear and my OPC keep to their word?) but think the above discussion and what everyone else has said to me is ‘don’t do it, you regret it!’ means it’s a keeper.

Cheers. Yes, Porsche cup uprights.
I couldn’t tell you in absolute terms what the difference is, however biggest benefit for me is that I can see out the back whether there is a law officer behind me biggrin

...also safer all round vision on circuit.

...and I like the look smile

Meh.

Too high to balance you cup of tea/coffee on when parked in the paddock. Useless. wink

It’s a totally emotive thing for me...I just absolutely love them. Wouldn’t be replacing my 991.2 GT3, it would be my 997 GTS that would make way for it. Just feel it’s a box I really need to tick at some point! Thing is I really want to tick the box of owning either a 60’s or 70’s 911 as well and have no idea which way to go first! The latter itch is currently very itchy as I spent the day at an event Goodwood a couple of weeks ago and got some passenger rides in some genuinely iconic cars from the 50’s and 60’s.

Drove my 996RS, 997RS and GT3.2 this week. Without doubt the best cat is the 997 RS... Such a fantastic piece of kit!
