PPF, Ceramic Coating - which did you go for?

did you ceramic coat on top of your ppf?
According to Staffordshire Car car who are the local Gyeon detailer, they say PPF first, then ceramic and yes, they coat over the film. I think all the newer films are okay with ceramic coating, but it's worth verifying this with whoever you end up using.Digga said:

What’s the procedure with PPF removal, guys.
Do they heat the film up, is it easy to remove?.
Tia..
Are you worried someone will nick it in this hot weather we're enjoying? Do they heat the film up, is it easy to remove?.
Tia..
In a word, yes, it is all designed to come off again, safely.
Just curious. I have a love hate relationship for PPF.
Not keen on the dust/dirt build up on the film edges. Shows a little on my white GT3. However, if it’s not on then I would have more chips. At least with the dirt/dust it’s just a matter of a detail if you ever do remove the film..You make your choice and stick with it then.
Cheers..

And you can't see the film at all. Can you guess what is covered in these pictures?
I pick up my cars at the factory and track the hell out of them right away. So, right from factory I drive to a local place I Stuttgart and get the PPF on. ( I once tracked a new car at the Nürbrgring for a week and it had major stone chip damage in the front.
When the car makes it home to the dealer I then get the ceramic on top; have done this with four cars so far, three of which I have still, and zero problems.

Be interesting to hear what the pro-PPF guys think on this.
Although I like the benefits PPF offers in terms of avoiding stone chips and gravel rash, I find it really frustrating when it comes to the polishing & waxing side of things. It could be the (old) PPF I have on the front portions, but when I try to polish it (I’ve used various products, eg AutoGlym super resin, Mazerna etc) I end up with traces and smear marks and it’s a royal PITA. Similar story buffing off waxes - problematic unless you’re using a simple liquid wax/spray. In short, you can’t bring the PPF up to the same standard of shine as the paint proper I find. How about you guys?
Maybe none of you are bothering with polish/wax stage, I dunno!?

I’m lucky enough to be getting a new 911 GTS next month and have been looking at the various paint protection methods on offer. I was wondering what other owners had gone for - Ceramic coating, PPF, a combination of both? With PPF, should the who.e car be covered, just the front or the front bumper? Which film and coating is best? Can you Ceramic coat film?
What’s the best option?
I've got G Techniq Crystal Serum Ultra on my X5 and I'll be getting the Crystal Serum Black on my 911 when it's delivered. Could;dn't be happier with it on the X5 so far. Car is kept outside, not washed that often and after a proper wash looks just fantastic (it's metallic black). Had some other dealer applied one on my previous 911 and it wasn't up to much - Probably poor prep beforehand though. What’s the best option?
No experience of others apart from that but the CSU has just been phenomenal for me.

My GT3 has Xpel Ultimate all over. I use carPro Reload. Super easy to use and the shine looks pretty good to me. My first time doing PPF + Ceramic on any car and I’m very impressed. I had a Full Front XPEL Ultimate Plus PPF with Gtechniq Serum Ultra Ceramic Coating done by GVE this past week. Given the car is 18 months old, I’m absolutely over the moon! It looks like brand new!
I can understand the arguments for and against PPF. My decision was based on wanting the car to look its best for as long as possible. I plan on doing 10k miles a year, often on longer journeys so stone chips were a concern. I’m probably most impressed with the ceramic coating though. The gloss is superb!

Well I’ve got experience with both, a Performante with PPF only, a Taycan with both PPF and ceramic coating (over the PPF) and a GT3 with just ceramic coating.
I would value the PPF over the ceramic coating. The benefits of the coating can be replicated with some (much cheaper) Gyeon products such as Can Coat.
The PPF does keep the car looking like new. My advice would be PPF rather than ceramic coating, both if you have the budget, if not use a quartz coating over the PPF.

I agree. Just to add the benefits of ceramic coating on top of PPF can also be replicated with some (much cheaper) products. I would value the PPF over the ceramic coating. The benefits of the coating can be replicated with some (much cheaper) Gyeon products such as Can Coat.
