he was not physically harmed - although he was hanging outside the car facing traffic when I woke up after a brief nap while we were flying. Unsurprisingly, he is not keen on driving anymore as a result - he unfortunately has a good memory ...
glad the dog was ok! (you obviously are ok now so no one need ask about you biggrin )

that was also the first question my mum asked when I called from the side of the road while waiting for the ambulance .... would do anything to protect him, so now he rides in an FF - hopefully less prone to crash that

I think I hit a cold puddle with one tyre under acceleration in 6th gear

Crikey..i'm pretty amazed you walked from from that one..I would have thought that not wearing the 6 points would have helped you and potentially saved your neck..and i'm mean that literally..Airbags aren't as effective when the driver is strapped in with 6 points..

Darn Cup2.... I find on track in my GT4 that they really do need at least a good solid 2 Laps to warm to temp. In my RS it’s lap and Half.

I think he was on Cup1s. They were much more tricky than the Cup2 in cold/wet conditions. Imo the cup2 is bloody amazing for what it is I find as I've driven in pretty heavy rain and also in partial sleet conditions at 3 degrees and they were ok as long as one was being sensible.

I agree.

The 2’s are still hairy scary when passing over sitting water, ‘’’hovercraft time’’ is problematic..

They are ok but you need to be on your game in the wet and not miss any patches of standing water.

Never been on Cup 2's , but remember Cup 1's and yes when worn were a bit of fun in the wet . Recently when on the way down to Le Mans in the .2 RS on Dunlop Sport 2's , dove through a biblical downpour ( lot of deep standing water ) at good speed no issues .
So not as good on track but felt very secure in the wet .

Dunlop's are a big step up in the wet over Cups. Had them on a Turbo S almost like having winter tyres on in low temps. Not as good a cups on track though. They take about twice as many dial downs as Cups before the pressures get stable. Also give a lot away in grip level, based on my experience.

Dunlops are a much better UK based road tyre IME and IIRC Andy Preulinger stated as much..Apparently the Dunlops don't suit the GT2 RS for extended track use.

I hated them as do many, I found they take ages to heat up on the road, so after a long straight you get to a bend and have no grip as they have got cold and lost grip, so then understeer not in a nice way, on track they just over heat and even after dial downs they never seem stable.

any one using these or cups even cup 2 over winter needs shooting imo, fit some PS4S and save your life or others.

As a road tyre I fully agree. I had Dunlops put on my Turbo S as its the only approved performance tyre for the car. The Pzeros just fell apart on track. I ran Dunlops on a 991.1GT3 for a while. Great on road and in the wet. But not good on track. I would imagine that they are not good at all on both the 3RS and 2RS. Have to say the new N2 Cups on 2RS are a good step up over the N1s. In both grip and wear rates.

I wonder how and who decides which cars get Dunlops and which get CUP2's ...... maybe they assessed by the spec at the factory , as I poverty specced and CS delete maybe thought , ahhhh a King's Road driver , give him Dunlops ( although done 3 track days and 2,5 k miles ) .
Not sure how the choose for the most popular UK buyer , the high spec "investor" , maybe Cup 2's as the car will sit in a heated garage .
Anyway agree with all the comments on Dunlops , even when letting the air out again and again , they get so hot and after 2 laps the back starts breaking traction even with electronic aids on .

Glad to know you and the dog are both OK.

Just back from a short trip to the Hartz mountains with Mrs lowndes. I was going to post this holiday snap elsewhere but as this thread has deviated a little perhaps here will do.

Points I am taking from this. We may moan about the nanny state and how much better cars were in the good old days. Real drivers’ cars blah blah…. Well that is as maybe but that same modern tech has clearly worked its magic here. Well done Porsche, keep up the good work.

The obverse side of the coin is that there is a deceptive degree of insulation in the current generation of GT cars. It is very easy to lose a true sense of how fast you are actually travelling. So when 125mph feels like 70 you really need to keep reminding yourself that all is not necessarily as calm as it seems.

It is about 9 hours run home from the Hotel Neumühle Wartmannsroth so while the car may be full of Mrs lowndes shoes and hat boxes concentration the whole time is still required. Weather at the end of the trip may be very different to how it was at the beginning. We all know this stuff but it does no harm to be reminded from time to time as the graphic accident photos show.

As Sgt. Phil Esterhaus would say. “Let’s be careful out there”
