Hi,
I am new to piston heads.
I will be in the market for a 996c2 in the next 12 months. However, I need to know if it will fit in my garage. Or, more importantly will I be able to get in and out of it if it does fit!
My garage is 2300mm wide. According to man maths I will be able to just about get in and out if I breath in and have the window down. Is my man maths correct? Does anyone keep a 996c2 in a garage this size?
Many thanks,
Steve

They have large doors, I'd be surprised if you could get in & out of it once you've got it into the garage.

Unless you buy a cab rofl

Assuming 2300 is the interior dimensions of the garage... if the garage is shaped such that you can tuck the car almost touching the wall on the passenger side (you'd have to fold the passenger side mirror in), you'll have about a 30cm gap to climb out through with the driver's door opened to touching the opposite wall. It might be possible if you're particularly flexible and slim, but it wouldn't be easy.

Having the window down makes it a lot easier to get in and out when in tight spaces.

Is 2.3 the opening or max width? I keep a 6rs in a single garage, and have no problems. Requires a touch of limbo dancing to get in, and especially out, but it's fine. You'll of course need a "soft" side wall to open the door against.

this tread shows how useless garages are, the 996 is a small car & yet we are discussing having difficulty in fitting it in.

It is small, but it's still wide and the doors are huge!

Mine fit in my single garage ok, as long as you are good at reversing and park close to the nearside wall

Bear in mind that leaving the window wound down is not an option. Unless the car is locked with the fob, the battery will drain in less than a week, possibly 3-4 days. What dumb F creates a space like that and calls it a garage, I really do not know. Might as well put it upstairs, with stair access. And call it a bedroom.

Mine can't fit in the garage

Not because it isn't wide enough, but "because children / junk"

Get this for £3.5k. Worth the investment to protect your pride an joy. No idea if they are reliable but someone else might have one? I would give it a go if I had the same problem and couldn't widen my garage (which I did at a previous house). Now I have a roomy double so no need for it.

It can be done but you have to perfect your exit/entry technique. Feet out first, then reverse out of the car to the upright position. A piece of carpet fastened to the garage wall protects the door edge.

It's quite tight in my garage so as suggested above I fixed foam floor mats to one wall to protect the door when getting in and out:

Cheap but look neat and have been very functional.

I've had my 964, 996T, and now 981CS in my 1930's garage. The 981 is the largest of those, and therefore the biggest squeeze. I have to drive in at an angle and am then just able to open the door enough to prise myself out. Window down and seat moved back, then window back up using key fob. It's very tight but doable. I also have a mirror placed on the floor in n/s corner to see how (very) close I need to get to the wall, and carpet on both sides.

Any 911 (even the large 991 variants) fit into a single garage easily.

You need to park biased to one side to make egress from the drivers door more comfortable but they fit easily.

After all they are narrower than a VW Golf

Its considered "bad form" to keep your children in the garage (at least over the winter months).

It's ok if heated.

I've got a strip of oval plastic conduit attached to the wall at the appropriate height. Looks a bit smarter than carpet.

Why does leaving it unlocked drain the battery I’d have thought the opposite? Surely the alarm is rhe major drain when locked.

Cheers everyone for all the replies. Much appreciated.
The 2300mm is total width inside the garage. I am pretty slim amd happy to stop eating completely if it helps!
May have to find a willing volunteer with a 996c2s nearer the time to see if its possible.
If it doesn't i will have to revert back to another Elise. Hardly a disaster but had heart set on 996csr from rpmtecnik.
