Has anyone had any experience with TopGear exhaust either for a 996 or just in general? My 996 Carrera4 has a factory fitted PSE which time has finally caught up with. A new one is currently just over the £2,100 mark for the pair of boxes so I'm investigating alternatives as I'd like to keep it switchable. The TG boxes are stainless so, assuming I keep this car as I long as I hope, I wont be doing it again in the foreseeable future. They are switchable on a keyfob but I understand the standard PSE plumbing & button works (Porsche say it's a 6 hour job with interior out etc if you want to plumb in a standard PSE so I assume this is what the fob helps to avoid). They're also £950 so considerably cheaper. I'd consider adding the 200 cell sports cats on top as I'd still be better off (there's also a manifold but you have to stop somewhere!).

Cheers. Sounds good reading through some of that thread. No wonder they’re out of stock though!

I have fitted the top gear on to my 997 & am happy with it.
If you already have the Porsche sports exhaust you should be able to fit the Top gear one
& still use the standard switch etc from your original exhaust.

Apparently the "flexy" sections on them aren't that flexible and hence they crack.

After 12 months, Dansk don't give a monkeys about those failures, either. So much for 6-year consumer rights.

Check out this thread:

Note how Top Gear earned a huge group-buy with starkly-contrasting customer service, as well as quality of workmanship.

Thanks.

What a mess that thread is!
At any one of many points the dealer, importer, manufacturer or distributor could have stepped up but chose not to.
Interesting to contrast that with Topgears response and shows that any component can have issues, it’s how they’re dealt with that matters.

The reason I ask is I have a pair of SS Dansk sitting doing nothing while the system on the car is starting to leak slightly.
I might look into having the flexi part replaced before fitting.

Heard of lots of Dansk failures with little or no support.

I seriously considered Top Gear, ended up going with Cargraphic which aren't switchable but sound amazing.

Do they offer fitting down in Dorset? May go for that if possible. Think I’ll get the 200cell X-pipe cat to go with the switchable exhaust. It’s a shame nobody does a custom switchable. I’d still love something that sounds standard with valves closed and childishly loud when open. If the TG system is at least on a par with the PSE then I’ll be happy. I’m expecting it to be a little louder in both modes with the cat though.

And if you can leave it with them, they will do it for free!

I have their 200 cell 63mm X pipe and manifolds in the garage waiting to go on, along with Ti tdf studs.

I have year old Dansk back boxes on there at the minute but they seem to be holding up ok.

Will report back in a couple of weeks once it's all done.

I keep thinking about the manifolds (added on the cost is still a little less than the PSE on it’s own!) as mine have been off the car when Hartech rebuilt the engine in December 2015. Hopefully they may come off ok...

I’m eventually going down the TG stainless system route but decided to get stainless manifolds fitted. Got a set off eBay for about £150 and are good quality. The downside being the labour cost of installing them as new studs had to be fitted. It was not cheap.

Exactly what i did. The TopGear boxes and 200cell Cats are top quality and had them fitted a month or so ago, along with he de facto cheap Chinese eBay manifolds.

The TopGear stuff is top drawer, delivered inside a few days and according to the fitter I used they are as good as he’s seen.
