Yesterday my dog (Siberian Husky) had a single red mark up just past her nose, area around it slightly swollen.
She is an awful dog for biting at wasps, bees in mid air, keep telling her off for it! Anyway, thinking it mught be a sting i just slightly scratched the surface hoping i'd pull out anything stuck in it.
Next morning she wakes up ad there's marks at the other side of the bridge of her nose?? First pic is of initial mark, next pic is over night pic. Had her at vets today, waste of time as usual, no idea what it was, put some of this miniscule tube of 40 quid cream on it, bring her back on Wednesday. Anyone any ideas?
We do have cats incidentally but she gets on great with them all and they haven't scratched her or anything.

Colleague's mums beagle had something very similar looking on her nose after she had an altercation with a hedgehog, it got very infected and took ages to heal.

This seems to be getting worse everytime we look at it, we were given Isaderm gel, is this stuff any good? Think i'd prefer antibiotics of some type if it 'has' been a hedgehog.

We've already been as i mentioned above. Just called vet again, which is closed now butwas put through to an emergency vet, just says this Isaderm cream has steriod in it and it will make wounds look worse initially, if it gets worse i've to take her to see this emergency vet. Got my Wednesday follow up appointment brought forward to Monday as well.

Have you done a google image search for 'bleeding sores dog nose snout'?

Be warned, some of the pics aren't pleasant - but it might help to give you a clearer idea of the underlying issue.

The royal veterinary college has an active referral centre 7 days a week - I’m not saying take the dog (it’s Very expensive) but might be worth giving them a call and asking if you can email a couple of pics over.

It’s a training centre so they are interested in pretty much everything.

One of our old dogs got a very similar open sore in exactly the same place after snuffling around in a pile of autumn leaves (so another possible hedgehog interaction)

Can't remember just what treatment she needed (15 years ago) but it remained a very nasty looking open wound and took ages to eventually heal, leaving permanent scarring.

No wounds/ sores on feet at all?

I suspect systemic antibiotics will be needed. Isaderm shouldn't really be applied on open wounds.

Can you get to a vet tom. If it really is visually worsening by the hour though I would be thinking about getting it seen again tonight (I know that will be costly)

Too be fair to the vets who saw it initially waste of time as usual for not knowing what may have caused a small wound is harsh. So many possibilities without more info to go on.

Going through to the vet again today. We were told to put this Isoderm gel on this for 5 days, yet i just read on a vets forum you are 'not' meant to put this gel on open wounds?? Anyone advise about this? I'm going to insist on getting antibiotics today, which i feel i should have been given in the first place.
As you can see in the pic below wound is definetly open now!

I'm not an expert, and I don't want to alarm, but that is a symptom of CRGV (aka Alabama Rot).

Are you in an at-risk area?

Incidentally in answer to an earlier question there are no other marks on her entire body, which i suppose bodes well towards the fact she's just poked her nose in towards something she shouldn't have.
There were 'rumours' about Alabama rot in our arwa, but no cases. I think that seems to show first signs on the lower half of the body first, and effects the dogs general health.
She's fine healthwise, just her normal self, just preoccupied by the discomfort on her nose.

I'd put money on it being caused by a hedgehog.

Im thinking so too, seen a few going around lately, even in daylight walking across the street.
With it being Sunday i think it's funny money to see a vet today, which i've experienced before when my dog was good enough to fracture her leg last year, on a Sunday! :-)
There's a large pet store nearby, don't know if they'd sell any antibiotic generally over the counter, they do have a locked cabinet full of creams/pills.

The vet didn't seem so keen yesterday to give her some sort of antibiotic that we requested, or suggested. However today, being Sunday and there's a £100 consultation fee 'before' any treatment they seem keener to supply antibiotics to me anytime i want today, i should stop being so cynical, it's a bad character trait.

Bex, who is a vet nurse, actually said that in the post immediately above yours.

Like others have said, I would be getting your dog to a vet today, in view of how the wound has deteriorated in the past 24 hours.

Some Pets at Home stores have vets which are open 7 days a week - whether they charge extra for Sunday consultations, I don't know.
