Hi

I am trying to buy a gift for a colleague who is a keen sports photographer (official photographer for a minor league football team) and I know that he is keen to get hold of a decent monopod. Does anyone have any suggestions for something suitable for serious use?

Thanks for any help
Steve

Anything by Manfrotto or Gitzo should do the job.

This

Plus this

Inexpensive and very sturdy

I assume if he's shooting football, he probably won't have a monster lens fitted, so the above should be fine

Eh? I assume if he’s shooting football, it’s usually in the 400mm to 600mm range?

That has a max height of under 155 inc the head - will likely be too short, the alu 4 section below means you don't have to stoop to take shots

I use a Gitzo 5561T and it will take ANYTHING that you might want to put on it!

Have used many different makes in the past, but nothing comes close to the support it gives.

I shoot the Premier League and EFL with a 400mm f2.8 prime sat atop of a Manfrotto 681B although it's 7 years old now so probably no longer available but it's a very good bit of kit as are most things made by Manfrotto. Find out what setup he shoots with, most monopods will do the job but my 400mm weighs in at 5.6 kg without a body attached so you need to be happy it's going to hold the weight.
