Recommended Insurers
Discussion
Hi Everyone.
Will shortly be collecting my 981 Cayman S (manual) and am looking for insurer recommendations please. Car has circa £15k worth of factory-fit options.
I'm not necessarily looking for the cheapest option as 'peace of mind' re. cover, including the options and dealing with a good, knowledgeable company, should the worst happen, is more important. But at the same time I don't want to be paying over the odds when I don't need to. Track day cover isn't really a necessity as I have a Caterham for that.
So far I've had quotations of between £550.00 & £600.00 based on a limited annual mileage (5k-10k) and a compulsory excess of £500.00. That doesn't seem particularly unreasonable and I've spoken to the insurers in question rather than put my faith in online-quotes only. However any recommendations would still be welcome.
Many thanks in advance.

Price is in line with what I pay but obviously is massively dependent on location and driving record/age etc.
Mine is due for renewal in a month or so and I will be trying some of the more specialist brokers (Flux etc) as you seem to get better quotes from these once you’ve had the car over 12months.

One of the best quotes I got was from Aviva Private Clients which negated Gap insurance. The other recommended insurers you read about (do a search) were either too dear (NFU) or wouldn't cover me as I put down 10k miles pa.

If you can get NFU to accept you and the price is good they do have a reputation for no hassle claims.
They also do multi car and other policy discounts and instalments at the same price as annual cost (no interest).

Locktons every day for me. Excellent service and very helpful chaps! If you are a member of the porsche owners club then you'll get a decent discount on the first year. They'll do agreed value too.

They do - but you have to get an authorised valuation, you can’t come up with your own. At least that is what I was told when I was looking to renew earlier this year.JM

NFU do have an excellent reputation, the only thing that put me off was a £1,500 excess if the car was stolen, £1,100 more than Marsh Private Clients (ex Porsche Insurance) who I eventually renewed with, not the cheapest but they guaranteed any repairs at a Porsche Centre and use of OEM parts which many insurers won’t.They also do multi car and other policy discounts and instalments at the same price as annual cost (no interest).

How on earth did you get an excess of £1,500 (1100) ? ! Mine is not with NFU, but is "only" £350. Maybe you deserve an 'award' for the highest excess !
I didn’t as I didn’t place my business with NFU - “due to the specialist and high performance nature of the vehicle” is what their advisor told me at the time. Shame - if it hadn’t been for that crazy excess I may well have used them.Edited by Schmed on Wednesday 20th June 16:13
My insurance is with Aviva. Got it through a broker, it’s a different package to what Aviva offer online. No excess, repairs are OEM at a Porsche dealer. Any claim which isn’t my fault doesn’t affect NCB. Also has track insurance. In the case of a write off, the car is replaced with all options irrespective of whether it all costs more due to price increases.

That'll be Aviva Private Client by the sounds of it. Similar offered by Hiscox, Zurich etc. As you say cover is a lot more comprehensive but you pay more for it. Personally I think it's worth it. Edited by Pinball on Wednesday 20th June 22:36

That's a given isn't it? Otherwise one would just put a ridiculous value on it. My 987.2 has maintained it's value for three years and I can't see it going down dramatically in the near future. I just get a latest valuation (£50 cost) from the garage that sold it to me (Porsche specialist) and robert et ton oncle.
Porsche club do a valuation FOC, which Locktons accept. s3 akr said:
Reis Motorsport Insurance do a road policy, agreed value, 6 trackdays included. Got mine for £540 with 3k mile limit. £30 more for 5k limit. Excess was reasonable but leaps to 10% of car value on track.
Sounds like a great deal. Will look them up at renewal. Normally do my track day insurance with Morís and my road insurance with Aviva.Gassing Station | Boxster/Cayman | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
