Unemployed breather pipe

Hi folks. Might be a silly question, but my 2002 996 4S has a loose clear plastic pipe under the o/s scuttle panel, which looks like it has become detached, but I can see where from. I’m thinking it might be a redundant battery breather pipe (Bosch S5-010 battery has no breather connection as far as I can see). The pipe disappears through a foam grommet on the rear of the front o/s wheelarch along with some wiring - pic attached. I’ll be taking the wheelarch liner off soon to check out a petrol smell on startup (a recent intermittent problem) so I can check where it goes then, but if anyone knows what this pipe is I’d welcome any feedback.
Also in the picture there is a a black plastic clip on what I guess is an a/c coolant pipe, which seems to serve no purpose, although the aforementioned breather pipe would fit on to the little spigot. Any thoughts on that also appreciated.
