Good luck and go well! thumbup

I'd run there plenty before (see pic) but it really was freak and probably due to the location of the hill catching weather coming in from the Welsh mountains. It was already raining but suddenly began to chunk it down with hail, just as I approached the ramp prior to the corner and the ball bearing effect was akin to missing my braking point by several feet....

In our 'roadgoing 2500cc+' class, we used to compete against a chap with a yellow 993 RS, David Woods IIRC?

Also a few of my past 964 RS owning mates when across to GT4's when their cars became too precious/valuable to nail on the track. I guess the GT4 has become a more accessible car for track use, than the GT3/RS as they have increased in price and size.
Enthusiasts do still exist... I count myself as one.. even though i'm not in a 911RS or GT3...I'm one of the GT4 crew.

If we enthusiasts want the forum to be a better place... have to reclaim it. I try to keep threads i post on, on topic - if it gets personal - I try to help squash it, if its a driving or technical thread - we should try to keep it on course - if talk of values starts to swamp a driving thread - try to bring it back.
We have to post our experiences, with photos and keep an even tone.. this will inspire others.. just like i had been inspired by so many threads in the past..track days.. euro trips...technical threads, breaking cars down or journaling a Carrera GT service.

Its up to us.

7.2RS being prepped today for a trip to Spa

Need to upload a stiffer map into the TPC Racing DSC controller as I felt the base maps are a tad soft

Vbox needs installing - CAN bus ECU tap will hopefully be straightforward.

May try using slicks this time....

Cannot wait.

think you are right..these cars become have become collectables and worth too much money for people to thrash around a track..with interest rates at rock bottom levels people have parked cash in all assets and cars have become one of them..no CGT either ..
But there have been a very decent number of GT cars at every Silverstone day (goldtrack or silverstone own) I've been to this year. There's even occasionally been one cgt and just last Tuesday actually there was not 1 but 2 loons that brought them down.... Ok admittedly a lot of the time it's the same guys there most of the time but I don't think one can reasonably say a decent number of cars aren't being driven on track.

I'd agree with TDT above as well, forums are what we make them I guess and if people don't post much then inevitably the loudest voices are the ones that only get heard (and yes it was entertaining seeing a certain poster always being happy to dish it to others but not able to take it in return....)

Are you doing the DSC map updates yourself or are you using someone?

Yes, many of the 964/964RS track dayers are now in GT4s and Cayman Rs and still doing around six trackdays a year in our newer cars. One of the the Cayman R owners (Kev) missed his 964RSs so much that he's just got himself a 964 Cup which hopefully we'll see out on track now and again. smile

I still manage a few track days a year and have no interest in the resale/value stuff. For me the value is in the experience. Will likely always have a few RS cars - probably the 992 will be my last.

I think that the OP has hit on a broader issue which is that there is a decline in most of the forums relating to actual experience with cars. Lots of discussion of the latest car, lots of non-car stuff, but less of the old line hands-on postings.

But we have 911UK for that in which alot of posters are on here and there. Its also a much happier place for it being smaller and more moderated.

I know biggrin the main bit of my post was re cars being only collectables and not used on track as you mentioned earlier and not specific to the 980!

I know the feeling, I miss my old 964 RS to such an extent that I am seriously contemplating selling a couple of cars to get myself back in one, preferably LHD in a nice period colour too.

I think any one posting personal abuse or making a post personal should get a 3 month ban.

Buck stops with the PH mods, they sit by far too much while often one individual is the root cause of 95% arguements for several years in forums. This applies to the Porsche and Supercar sections of PH that I read at least, two different individuals but same obnoxious and incessant posting. Everyone else eventually gets fed up and dragged down to their low level....then the individual will complain about "abuse". rolleyes

For Porsche related stuff, I tend to read RL more but there is a lot of drivel there too about values and matching stitching to brake calipers (ffs).

That's more like it!

Trip to an Imola track days a few years ago, organised by the sadly departed Phatgixer:

And a fantastic trip to Portugal with Bookatrack last September at Portimao and Estoril with a 1000 mile thrash down l and a moist day at Spa earlier in the year :

The GT has done 40k now, the RS left after 2 years and 10k miles, both lot's of trackdays, happy memories and great fun with like minded enthusiasts. These and the ones before have been used as the maker intended.

Without trying to derail the thread down to that level, it must be noted that moderation on PH is down to every single member to report.

The moderators do take action but it needs members to hit the report button for them to do so. Noticeable "trolls" such as Yipper have been banned.

The prolific posters however whom I'm sure we can all name (each sub-forum has it's own) seem to be able to skirt around the ban hammer for whatever reason. A shame.

But do you not think, that whist its great that we get to use our cars on track. There are those around that are not just not into pushing a car within an inch of its life round a race track, they might just not be into this. But equally they get just as much pleasure from seeing there car all nice and polished in a collection, along with the odd gentle fair weather drive. In my opinion if it makes Em happy don't see anything wrong with this.

Anyway booked on to Silverstone on the 2nd. Happy to give some PX Laps if you are about.

Yes please I would not mind a lap at Silverstone with yours, not sure if you want to do the same on my CGTS? smile

Shame I am supposed to be at work on that day.
