I know from experience the c63 feels a bit floaty above certain speeds. Would need to put the black series to even this out.

My 997 GTS is at nearly 50k miles so debating a change. A C63 (4.0) or an M4 would be a far more appropriate car for me - 60 mile round trip to work on clogged up motorways and a 2 year old toddler means I rarely get to use it as I used to do.

But having driven both of the above, I just can’t do it. Lovely cars and definitely faster in a straight line than mine, but couldn’t help feeling after a while they’d feel like a C200 or a 320 - by that I mean what I think and feel when I see them after a day at work, or on a sunny Sunday morning. Perhaps I’m wrong. As it is, a 911T or 991.2 GTS is the likely next move.

That is kind of my point, on a larger road you would have to go extremely fast for one to "not see where a ... went". On a B road you might just get away with more if you are braver.

I wonder how the homoglation rally cars would leave these modern cars down a b road though, my merc would kill my evo up the a46 bypass in Bath till it got to the wiggly corners, the the evo would come into its own and corner like a demon. Its a shame these homoglation cars arent made any more - haldex based cars dont do much for me as good as the a45 might feel neutral, it'll never feel rearward driven which is what i loved about the evo.. I struggled not going back to the evo before the c63 but thought id always wanted a v8 muscle \ naughty car and to be honest its the only car ive had since the evo that's made me want to drive for drivings sake, all in all enjoyable with enough toys and nice enough interior for me. One day ill get a 911 though smile.

If you're only in Bath (I'm in Bristol) you're welcome to come and have a go in my 997 C4, I'd quite like to see what a C63 is like...

My experience:
- The 63 is a torque beast. Point and shoot kind of toy, not too many 911 will keep up for raw pull. Far more practical, nobody will give it a second glance (which is useful if dailying it and leaving on the street), fuel consumption is scary.
- the Porsche is more of an event to get in and drive. Sitting lower, which in traffic can be peculiar, engine starts growling above ~4,000rpm and only pulls above 6,000 (and still nothing like the 63 freight train) and overall better dynamics

Hence: 63 is the family car for motorway journeys (and city use, if you have the Exxon Valdez moored in your backyard), Porsche is the toy for aimless drives. Depends on your intended use but 2 lovely choices

Ive found i can get 29 mpg when on cruise control at 75mph on the m4 going to London of a Monday morning, the trip home is usually 23 as sitting around in west London trying to get back to the m4 theres a lot of stop start so it drops to 25 ish.. Around town its 15-22 ish. I think its rather good considering the size.. My mates m5 with the v10 was dire and thats a 1.3 litres smaller than the Merc, but had 2 more cylinders - not sure on why that would cause worse mpg but yeha he was lucky to get 7-10 around town and on a run 20. Im really happy with my merc and glad i got it, its a brute of a thingand not a, absolute lard ass and i imagine isnt as accurate as the Porsche when it came to handling etc but its got good toys and features. I'm just used to the power now and have noticed that above 120 on the track the rear end feels a bit floaty - so may have to get the black edition wing and canards and bonnet to aid cooling. I think it gets away with the wing quite well without looking chavvy.

I know a few people who have owned both (including myself) It would most people who has owned a C63 loves them but then sells very quickly, maybe less than a year. A great engine and soundtrack but kind of pointless as a drivers car and very rarely seen on track. 997 is the drivers car, never had a issue with the lack of lowdown power as the 997 loves to rev. Try both!!

Yeah i've been a fan of the 911's since i was a schoolboy, the 930 turbo was my poster of choice and a lambo of course. I think i'd like a gt3 of sorts if i was going to buy one.
I've done some handling days with the c63 and since having a diff fitted its fantastic, feels really balanced and stable considering its 510 brake and 1700 plus kilos !
