991.2 gt3 - when is right to buy
Discussion
HI guys, long time lurker. Was looking at mclarens, but I've always fancied a Porsche and namely the GT3. Never owned a Porsche, but I think now is the time for something a little less flamboyant, but a pure driving experience in return.
Is now a good time to get a Gt3 or do you think the premiums still being commanded will come down soon ? Any must have options ? - i don't want it to be more difficult to sell than I have to, as I plan to put a lot of miles on it.....

PDK,Lifting,PCCB,Club Sport,PDLS,Carbon Interior,Leather Dash and Extended Leather,Sport Chrono,Privicy Glass,Rear Camera in the main and any other little personal bits that you fancy.
All IMO of course as spec will vary from person to person to person, will also help when your ready to sell and a nice thing to be in!
No time like the present.....
Prices seem to have settled and may perhaps creep up in the spring. It really depends on your desired spec - if your are planning to do reasonable mileage then I would say avoid paying an enhanced premium on a low mileage car.
Spec wise, you need to decide which gearbox? Lift, pccb are popular and then the debate about seats.
Some lower spec cars are marketed as similar prices to higher spec cars - devil is in he spec.
Best of luck!

i've seen a few i like, but no camera - is this a biggy ? Personally I'd have it, but finding it hard to find one in the right colour with the spec i want - namely pdk, clubsport, front lift, pccb, buckets.
Seem to be alot withouht pccb - is this a marmite option, or just flippers wanting to save some money ?

OP, they’re brilliant cars.
Main things to decide are
PDK or Manual - If you want a Manual gearbox then you can decide Touring or Wing
Touring or Wing - If you want something understated then the Touring may be for you but is a decent amountt more £
Clubsport - Cage and harnesses. Only available with a Wing.
Seats - Comfort or Buckets (there are two options for both)
Brakes - Steel or PCCB
Lift - obvious
Colour - by the time you’ve decided that lot you won’t have much choice !
The “must have” spec that gets the highest prices is - Clubsport, PCCB’s, Lift, LED Lights, Buckets (Have to spec with CS). Plus a few other things that should be standard...reversing camera, DAB radio, Dimming Mirrors
Ask the dealer what the list price of the car was...good spec cars would have been close to £130k. Some idiots got close to £140k (myself included).
As far as the market goes I posted earlier today on another thread there are a lot less cars available now than a month ago when there were quite a few more available. Normally this is a quiet time of year but prices have come off a fair bit.

The reason there are a lot without PCCB’s is that the PCCB cars sell quicker...very popular option. If you want to track the car a lot steel brakes may be the way to go...that’s the popular theory. Makes sense re less pccb vars being available. Yes, i read your other thread regarding the number of cars for sale dropping. I was going to hang on till the summer with the hope prices will drop further, but having read that thread, i guess a reduced availability may mitigate such.
You think we'll see an influx of gt3's as current owners trade in for the standard 992's to maintain that buying relationship with the dealers, before apringboarding to the 992 gt3 when they are avaialable ?
Ive seen 2 cars with almost all the spec i want - except one has no camera, and the other has the camera but no pccb (albeit the latter is 6k cheaper) ....

All the best spec cars have sold.
Just a waiting game now, but prices are not going to move to due no cars available.
Not sure on the Automatics, I don’t keep an eye on those imo better value cars about if you want an auto.
But a manual NA 4.0 is a magical thing and as I said in another thread last of an era, now we have filters and mot regs. You won’t be able to fits exhaust systems to new cars.

Have been in the same position as you, and have watched and waited patiently since summer. I recon prices flattened at the beginning of December. -The number of cars available and the economic outlook, release of the 992 - plus time of year being likely reasons. So I bought a v. Low mileage, high spec comfort version for 6K overs. My requirements were 18 way seats, no cage, manual plus the obvious must haves. (I need a road car and to get my kids in the back.) I doubt you will see prices drop further for a while now, and in spring they may even creep up. Bear in mind the new 992 GT3 may not necessary end up being a better drivers car than the 991.2 - and who knows perhaps prices will then remain strong. The 991.2 is a very sorted and wonderful car - and there is always some risk the 992 will have a few teething issues like the 991.1. My view is look to buy now, and what you might save by waiting, may not happen for a while. Life really is too short.

It's all personal preference but a vanilla 992 would never be something I'd trade a GT3 in for. The 3s are so usable every day, so why settle for something less exciting? You think we'll see an influx of gt3's as current owners trade in for the standard 992's to maintain that buying relationship with the dealers, before apringboarding to the 992 gt3 when they are avaialable ?

OP - Take a look at Sheffield OPC - my old Miami Blue is making an appearance and the Spec. is spot-on.Just a waiting game now, but prices are not going to move to due no cars available.

Peter
if you plan to do lots of miles buy the spec that you most want, resale value will be affected more by the miles than the spec.
I’d have a look at the cars for sale on here and their specs and you can see what is actually selling as it seems to me in recent weeks comfort specs have been the ones moving.
If you look at all the cars under 150k they are all pretty much clubsport specs suggesting that the traditional gt3 market which was for clubsport etc has changed.

the big dealers and the OPC's
But as I say thin on the ground.
whats wrong with the JZM GT3 that's a big spec PDK car.
great spec, but no reverse camera - and unfortunately the sale price reflects the full cost of every option ticked by the owner. Given the options ticked, it beggars belief he didn't tick the reverse camera option ! Maybe I can live without it. Other than that, room to haggle on this ?But as I say thin on the ground.

yes odd to miss that off on a big spec car as you cannot see out the back. But it will be on a SOR so yes you can offer what you want to pay and Russ will just ask the owner of it, he might just want out of it.

I only watch manuals, and they need to be buckets and PCCB's for best chance or I should say fully speced for best chance.only 3 left on the OPC site now (vs 15 Auto's) , 2 have been for sale ages , a very over price steel car £35k overs, a comfort car £30k overs, (good luck)
And a track hack spec car with NO options and 2 owners, so £37k overs !!!
every other high spec car sold ages ago, then the ok ish spec cars went, now just over priced odd spec cars which will never sell at the prices listed.
Rare as hens teeth manuals in good spec's now as predicted as that what the "driver" wanted and the flippers are long gone.
