Can I afford a decent 911 for everyday use?

Barmy for allowing myself to purchase a car I’ve always wanted?
He’s not barmy. Sounds like he’s got a half decent job with a car allowance. Barmy is wasting it on a mundane exec diesel saloon or pseudo 4x4 diesel company car, when give or take a hundred quid a month he gets a 911. And has the pleasure of walking into an OPC and choosing exactly what he wants. As he pointed out, if it was about money, he’d lease a citroen c3 cactus for £150 a month, or buy a 6 month old ford mundano at 40% off list or spend a grand on a shed.dgswk said:
Without going off topic into the murky world of car allowances, any half decent 5 series / A6 company car will cost you a fortune in tax - I opted out a few years back, but logged back in yesterday to see what was on offer - a nice A6 S-Line saloon with a touring pack and a few other bits ticked - a £50k car, that will cost you getting on for £550 a month in tax deductions alone. A nice 530e Touring - very tax efficient - cracking on for £450 a month to you Mr Income Tax payer.
So you take your £7-8k car allowance instead, get taxed on it, and voila, you've got £8-900 a month to spend on a 911 - as long as your miles are not ridiculous. Mine are semi-ridiculous so I run a shed, which the rebate on the 45p/25p mileage rates (less the 13p fuel which my employer pays) more than covers the wear and tear on that.
So its actually going to cost me my £15k deposit to drive a 911 for 4 years, some of which I may or may not get back. And of course, if the worst happens, I'll have to sell it and start polishing my shed.
Why wouldn't you if you've always wanted a 911?
Man maths is a great tool.So you take your £7-8k car allowance instead, get taxed on it, and voila, you've got £8-900 a month to spend on a 911 - as long as your miles are not ridiculous. Even you know you're barmy. prismv said:
My heart wants one very much but my head is saying no.
If you could easily afford the money for this car, your original budget wouldn't have been half what you're now spending. If you could easily afford your original budget you wouldn't have had a question in the first place.drjdog said:

This was before I was introduced to HP with a balloon, so for the same money as what I paid for my A6 on lease 5 years ago I can get a 992.

You currently own (outright?) a BMW so I presume you can answer that. Why would anyone choose a BMW or Audi over a 911?
If you want to spend £50k for 3 year's 911 ownership, go for it.

I hope you enjoy your 911 but if a leased Audi A6 cost you £50k 5 years ago then there is something far wrong! Why would anyone choose a BMW or Audi over a 911?

I’m sure there’s a forum for you somewhere, but it certainly isn’t here.
I like cars and I like Porsche.This isn't a thread about either, really, it's become a thread about leasing/PCP/debt.
I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who read this thread from the start and raised their eyebrows at several points.

Cheers mate, haters gonna hate.
It wasn’t a decision I took likely but I’m not getting any younger and I get to scratch the 911 inch.
Can’t wait, Silverstone Porsche Day invite came through too so I’ll be looking forward to that also ??
I don't think anyone is hating on you, just making suggestions that would have saved you money and allowed you to scratch your 911 itch in a different way for less cashIt wasn’t a decision I took likely but I’m not getting any younger and I get to scratch the 911 inch.

Once I saw the 992 I wasn’t willing to settle for less

Don’t get me wrong I’m really grateful for all the constructive replies and advice and I know I can spend less but I also get what I regard as a lesser car.

Yeah, coming into Porsche ownership cold, the 992 is something special for sure, no compromise here either.

Enjoy it. I look forward to giving you a wave on the road, and maybe you'll give a lowly 987 a wave back if you don't know who's driving
