You’re successful for a reason. Probably ability and hard work, perhaps with some luck along the way. Your white van man might perversely have a much greater sense of entitlement than you, parking wherever he wants, across 2 spaces etc.

Your car didn’t get keyed, forget it!
You're asking for it now, cue several posts from people who 'know someone' who is a multimillionaire but who choses to drive an old van and stops to pick up abandoned sofa cushions at the side of roads, 'money shouts, wealth whispers' kind of thing
Don’t worry, I only drive a poxy base Carrera with one of those old fashioned gear levers.

Being completely serious, I’d usually turn up to a supermarket in my battered 2011 BMW X1. It attracts zero attention, positive or negative, and is a surprisingly engaging B road drive with its lean and lack of grip.

I guess it's deemed to be flaunting wealth in a vulgar way.
This, exactly. Turning up at Lidl in a £100k+ be-winged supercar isn't really appropriate in the context of the disposable income of the average shopper there.

I'm all for freedom of speech and actions, and using your car how you want is obviously up to you, but I would suggest that the reaction the OP got is entirely to be expected given the circumstances. It does smack of a slight arrogance IMHO.

I had a yellow Gallardo Spyder years ago & had no issues until.....

When I came to sell the car, I was taking a prospective buyer for a drive when someone called me a fat c$#t !!

I was in shock, especially considering that I'd told the buyer that i only got love on the streets!

BTW...
He did buy the car & I'm not fat wink

May have been the case a few years back but now I' m not sure.

I think Lidl and Aldi now attract some of the smart money who demand value and reasonable quality.

One things for sure though these days you are more likely to bump into Chavs at Asda.

Without being derogatory of course. rolleyes

997 Turbo here. And in four years, I can't remember anyone giving me an earful just because of the car.

Never had abuse as such ,but having had Aston’s and lambo’s etc the Porsche’s get treated differently .
I remember driving to test drive a gt3,at the time I had a dbs ,in the dbs I was let out onto a busy road immediately ,in the gt3 at the same junction it took 5 minutes to be let out .
And in the Lambo I’d have my photograph taken all the time ,never happened to me in any of the multiple Porsche’s I had.

Been called a wker plenty of times, never anything to do with the Porsches though.

Also my main form of transport for work is a white van, so all the reverse snobbery is just as bad to me as being jealous of a porker.

Maybe you just look like a wker....

Never had a problem..drive a Lava orange 991 RS or a Viper green 997RS and generally get the odd wave, nothing more. Maybe Canadians are more laid back?.

I suspect its quite UK specific. We are, unfortunately, a nation of s.

OP's web page has a bit about motivational speaking, van driver probably didn't like what he had heard wink

OP, it strikes me that you don’t really have enough information to suggest jealousy. Forgive me for saying, but it comes across as a little arrogant.

He said they had no other interaction at all
WHy is it arrogant to suspect jealousy? Seems most likely to me
What else could it be? Mistaken identity?

Van driver was a bully, OP stood out and is probably a bit weedy in build, so bully picked on him thinking there would be no fight back.

I'd laugh at this post if it wasn't the unfortunate truth..I had some awful unwanted attention from boy racers when out driving my now sold Racing yellow 991.2GT3..One particularly nasty incident resulted in one idiotic road racer attempting to overtake me on a blind left hand bend on a dark frosty December evening..It ended with the offending idiot understeering into a rocky bank and landing on his roof..This was a week after taking delivery of my new GT3..Hence the reason i bought a Grigio Silverstone Ferrari and not a Rosso one..
It depends on where you live and how many high end cars they see on a regular basis.Unfortunately i have a temper and prone to violence if pushed hard enough so tend to avoid situations where my path is likely to cross with jealous lowlifes.

I’m sorry, but what a moronic comment IMHO. You say you should be able to use your car the way you want but then contradict yourself by saying it’s arrogant and not appropriate to take to Lidl? I despair at people who make excuses for bullies. You are basically saying it’s understandable and justifiable that the OP was treated to this abuse? Not it’s not, it’s simply thick, jealous people venting because life has not turned out the way they’d hoped.

I said it was understandable given the circumstances the OP put himself in. I didn't say it was in any way justified.

There's a slight irony in your post, given that you felt the need to resort to personal insults and name calling...

What, going to a supermarket in his car? He was hardly driving around spraying down poor people with cold water
