Can someone please help? I've booked a track day tomorrow at Goodwood (last minute). It's a 98db day so will I will be able to take the GT3 (991.2). I have a GTS (991.2) as an alternative. What do you think?

The gt3 will really struggle with 98 if you open it up. The gts might just scrape through with its turbos to damped things down.

Do you have something slower? On such a cold damp day you might be better in a hot hatch...

Thanks for the reply. I really wanted to take the GTS (already assumed GT3 would be caught out) to get a feel for it. Won't be going mad but it's forecast to be sunny and dry.

I’d take the GTS as the turbos will reduce sound but not sure you’ll get past the static test, best tell then a low red line rpm number and build your revs slowly else you might overshoot the revs.

There are three sound meters for drive by

First between Madgewick and Fordwater near outer edge of track (on your left), second approaching Lavant again on your left, and on your right exiting the chicane. Look out for them and try to go past the first without being full on, ditto exiting the chicane. Lavant one rarely causes issues.

I have a standard 997.1 GT3 CS with stock exhaust and the Goodwood guys consistently static test me at 103 dB, so I'd take your GTS!
Have fun.

GT3 will pass the static test as it’s got a 4krpm rev limit when stationary....mine passed a 95db static test. Can’t comment on the track limits.

OK. That’s a very good point. I will see if it works. I don’t live too far away if I have an issue.

Could you run the GTS in standard mode with PSE off for static and run through test? Then sports or sports plus with PSE on for the actual event? Or is that an old and failed attempt to circumvent?

Apparently the exhaust sound the same at above 4,000 with PSE on it off. I will give it a go and see what happens. Could be a short day.

Update. Amazing day - the sun was shining, and not too many cars. Very well organised by Dave at opentrack.co.uk

The GTS passed the static at 95db and was not flagged once during the session - result! Thought I'd try the GT3. It also passed the static test at 92db - result.... Until the second lap I was kicked-off for breaching all 3 sound meters in one lap!!!! It did sound amazing though smile

Looks like it's 105db days only for the GT3.

Goodwood is a great track especially on a good weather day.

Respect for tripping all three meters

I trip the drive-by meters on 105db days in my GT3....exhaust has to be in quiet mode and even then the meter at the chicane I had to be careful....it's silly really.
