So people don’t like the TB or the seats and it needs setting up.
Plus other bits to make it your own, you can add £30k to the asking price to do it right. Again you can buy a 996 GT3 RS and a set of shocks for the same money.

And yet it would not be as much fun to drive on UK roads.

GT3’s are great cars, and so are these. Just different.

Until you’ve owned one for a while, set up properly, you wouldn’t know.

Mate owned a 65 setup to tutil road rally spec on Avon’s, before he rebuilt it, and now owns a 2.0 225bhp cup car, I get to drive these, not for me.
Hence I said buy the shocks for a 996 RS and you might make money and it will improve the drive 10 fold.
As you say just just different, and people might not like the old school cars, I don't, just personal choice. I get my fix driving my mates cars and that’s enough for me not to ever own one myself.
But at least he owns real ones :-) .
I just always say buy a oem real car over bitsa back date.

A 72 911 S, I would love as my classic fix. A retromod you can stick where the sun don’t shine for me, Porsche have a great back catalogue to choose from.

Backdating / Updating, whatever they’re called, if done properly, they drive as good if not better than the originals and I’ve driven a fair few.

They’re marmite cars, but the Tutthill ones are brilliant.

They definitely get under your skin and you don’t get that ‘feeling’ driving someone else’s car for a bit here and there. A good euro trip with mates, drive round Circuit de la Sartre & Spa at full chat and you’ll start to realise how special they are.

Mines now in Hong Kong, someone ended up paying nearly £150k for it by the time it arrived there and I’d buy it back if I could. Maybe not for that price, but one at around £100k still, for me, represents value in the smiles per miles quota.

For UK roads, I’d still rate my Tutthill over my GT3 for a Sunday blast.

I am all for updating an org car, just not backdating fakes, I don’t get all the fake 72 RS cars ! Or any of the restro back dates with comic wide rear arches !!!

Mate will get his 66 2.0 cup on track this year we Will see how it goes, but it's very light and has 225bhp.
Makes these 3.2 250bhp cars wonder where the power has gone on a engine that size at the prices they charge for so little bhp.

But rather have a real SC with updated brakes and shocks for 1/2 the price. That’s just me, as I said Porsche have a great back catalogue to choose a car to update with nicer parts. And the upside is the prices go up not down on real cars.

Its all personal preference. Tinkering with them and making them go down the road or track better is what 911 and Porsche has always been about IMO I couldn't imagine driving stock 911 - we all have different driving styles and level of ability so important to set up how you like her. You're missing the point slightly and important to remember you can buy that car for £90k and leave her exactly as is and she will be a wonderful drive.

First thing is to buy and and put 10000 miles on her then think about what you might want to change - thats part of the fun smile

Vert your old green car oozes x factor. Has more visual appeal to me than a supercar tbh and then there's the way it drives beer

Tell me about it....I wish I’d kept it, however I got seduced by a couple of prancing horses...before realising lower bhp and more old school cars were way more fun on the roads. I’d definitely have another and am tempted with the one the OP posted.....

So, buy quickly or I might be in there! hehe

Hi Vert, same with me and modern 911 turbo. Too fast for road use and was looking for fun at lower speeds especially for UK roads. If this Tuthill car had been for sale back in early 2018 we would just as happily have bought her - was looking for any interesting air cooled nothing specific that had been breathed on as they're bit soft out of the box - have a feeling this Tuthill car will also end up with someone on here and she's the best of both worlds in that you can drive the wheels off her without fear of damaging or adding lots of miles - I know a few people looking for this type of car at the mo so if you're looking I agree be fast on that telephone smile

More gratuitous photos of a Tutthill at Le Mans

Must stop looking at these, or it could be rather costly!

No substitute for sorted Tuthill air cooled, for me anyhow. The grey car is a good buy IMO.

Hold the phone..... When we were chatting on the other thread you slated the 996 3 & RS saying it was a pig to drive. You even went as far as to say you had one, did a shed load to it and it still was st so you sold it? Yet here you are saying the "right" pair of shocks will improve it 10 fold?? More crap you've made up???

Back on topic... AndrewD has one in build and it sounds amazing. He'd be the best one to ask to canvass opinion from re pricing and the Tuthill experience.

Well if you wait another six months they might be much more affordable. This 72 911 S went through Gooding’s auction in the US yesterday estimate $200k to $250k sold for $142,500. I know it’s in the US but if that kind of price action repeats itself in European auctions there are going to be some great cars to buy later this year. Auctions have been shocking from what I have seen this week.

A lot of dregs being dumped in auctions, not saying this one is,the rear repairs need clarity.Auctions do not give a true market value of the good cars, most good ones sell with no adverts still.
Great long term ownership which counts for a lot, something not rightni would have thought.

Totally understand about the fact there can be a story to tell with these cars but here’s a 1970 S Estimate $180k to $200l...just sold for $132,500.

https://www.goodingco.com/vehicle/1970-porsche-911...

Or a 1967 S estimated at $250k to $300k....just failed to sell with a high bid of $175k!

https://www.goodingco.com/vehicle/1967-porsche-911...

Maybe all the estimates are crazy....maybe all the cars have stories. Who knows !

Did someone say Le Mans? Trantorman's clubbie and the Black Snake. Both saville row builds on a 993 C2 and 993 RS twin turbo prepared for the Ring 1998 record. Trantorman built our yellow car with 9m for engine and Greg Cranmer who used to be Singers UK agent. Not sure if he still is Singers agent think he may have lost it to Tuthill?
