991.1 Steering Wheel Upgrade

Anyone swapped the 991.1 multifunction wheel for a Macan/718/991.2 wheel? Been meaning to do it for a while now and wanted to know if anyone else had done it or could recommend a specialist who could. I was thinking about doing it myself.

I see there’s a kit available to allow full multifunction capability, so know I need to buy that to get the 991.2 wheel working.

Any wheels I’ve seen for sale online seem to be sans airbag so presumably need to source that separately.

Yes, I used one of those GPS modules and a Macan wheel in my 991. I hated the Multifunction buttons for the PDK on the original wheel. The later wheel transformed the drive for me, it also looks so much better, well worth the effort imho.

The GPS module is needed for the Multifunction to work, not the paddles really so it depends on your original wheel in the manual car.

what was the £££. I guess I will have to get OPC to do it as my car now under 2 yr OPC warranty.

Thanks for this. Would you be able to share some info about the job and pricing, even in PM form if you’d rather not say publicly? I’ve got 2 and a bit years worth of Porsche warranty still to run on my car.

I realise that I was the only Porsche customer ever to like the buttons. But I liked the buttons.

I’m not doing it for the paddles, although I do hate the buttons. I just think the 991.2 wheel is light years ahead of the 991.1 wheel in the looks department.

It's a pretty straight forward job, not too technical at all. The install instructions are sent once you buy a module from gpsadapter.us. Cost wise I was around £1000 for the wheel, airbag and module. Fitting takes about an hour.
FYI, the module is only there to intercept the CAN signal for the multifunction buttons, the OEM airbag and paddle wiring is not touched.

That’s about what I was expecting, thanks - did you source the wheel and airbag from an OPC?

Using this thread to see if any people that have upgraded from a .1 to a .2 wheel, or 991.2 owners. I completed the upgrade to a .2 wheel yesterday (none MF) was a quick and easy 15 minute job. The only thing I’ve noticed on the .2 airbag is, the airbag slightly wobbles when secured in the wheel. Is that normal on a .2 car?

or maybe even better just buttons? yes I like the latest stick which looks like a normal manual shifter, but thats also frustrating because it is not

Sounds like the plate behind the aibag might be loose. Remove the airbag and tighten the torx screws and you should be ok. (This is how the .1 wheel works, I’m guessing it’s the same for .2)
