Here's a couple of pics of mine... .2 club sport. My car's got a few mods but nothing 'major'... KW 3 suspension and a few RSS adjustable bits, cup diff, PFC front discs, 997.2 shifter, RSS engine mounts and a few other things I can't remember!

Looks tasty!

Does the 997 shifter feel a lot better?

When I replaced it mine didn't look particularly worn but I'd say the 997 version is a little more accurate / precise. Its definitely a better made shifter and I'd say it is worth the upgrade.

Joe 100% go for the .2RS shifter, metal bushes and slightly shorter throw, I’ve got one and it’s excellent. Will send you a DM on insta with the part numbers.

No probs. I'm pretty sure the 997.2 shifter part number is 997.424.010.91... I think its about £230.

I have it on my 996 as well. Tightens up the throw a little but still retains a 996 fluidity to it as opposed to the notchiness of the 997.2

I much prefer the overall feel of shifting in the 996 especially when on circuit. The 997 can be a bit slow in shifting.

I agree with you there, the 996 feels closer to a beautiful 205 gti shift which is perfect.

I’ve just added RSS engine mounts to mine replacing the absolute shot 21 year old originals and have the Cantrell Motorsport gearbox mount inserts on order, should make somewhat of a difference!!!

I'd be intrigued to know if there is a tangible difference with these mods. Mounts are on my radar to do as the next job.

Sorry just spotted this thread. I can also put my 2 cents in as well

I bought my 996.2 Manthey GT3 about 2 years, for the sole purpose of tracking the car. I wanted a car that I could just jump in and take to the track, drive around all day having some fun, then drive back home. In the end, I wound up using slicks on track as it really has transformed car tremendously.

It has however been a journey for me. And in the beginning I really didn't gel with the car, as I had handling problems-mainly lack of rear grip. Car came from Manthey who had recently installed a set of KW Clubsport 3 ways. Other than that suspension was standard. However it did come with the Manthey K410 kit which includes the Cup type induction, lighter weight exhaust, front CF boot lid, and GT2 type CF rear lid, and Girodiscs.

Anyway to cut a long story short, after a couple of visits to Center Gravity, along with a lot of head scratching, and adjustment I managed to get the car to handle on point according to my driving style. I'm glad I persevered and can understand why some people perhaps don't gel with the 996's handling. It is very sensitive to geo changes and if not set up correctly can be a handful. However take the time to sort it out and it rewards you incredibly.

I had a problem at Spa last year, with a badly threaded spark plug which meant the spark plug was effectively floating in its hole unscrewed, and which required the engine down and cylinder head off to sort out-which was done at Manthey again. It was a whilst you're there moment I decided to rebuild the gearbox as I had some issues with getting first in gear, I got a LWFW and clutch, shorter final drive, and Cup diff sorted. And all I could say when car came back was WOW what a difference the shorter final drive made! I've been reading many threads and posts about the final drive along with all the arguments. However, I will categorically say that it is the SINGLE best mod you can do to this car. I have owned and own a lot of Porsches, GT3's RS etc, but can definitely say that this is really how this car should have come from the factory. Unquestionably in my mind. It transforms the cars fun factor and usability tremendously.

I also had it retuned as it was running Alfa N-mode as per original, but now runs according with the MAF properly, and with large fans aimed at the engine bay(unlike most dynos where the fans are at the front of the car and so don't properly cool engine in the dyno room) car puts out a healthy 424hp.

I have continued my journey with this car, with little tweeks including solid engine mounts, tranny mounts, Function first shifter mod, and will now be installing Monoballs .I can state that the car is very quick around most tracks, and even 996 Cup cars need to be on their game if they are to stay ahead of me when I'm on slicks. I have removed all interior carpet and trim(apart from center console and door cards) and lost 45kgs in the process thus far. Will look to lose some more in due course. But car has such an analogue feel to it, and is so playful and exploitable that you just pile it in and it sticks and goes. Its an absolute delight to drive on track and I absolutely adore it.

Looks wise, well I guess that's subjective, but I don't think they look too shabby in my view at least.( I know someone commented where are the pics?!)

Still a great car to pedal around a trackday. Every time there is something new to learn about the car. Mine has some fairly light mods:

Motorsport diff plates
Performance Friction front discs and pads
Geo
Cup 2s

Just the driver that needs to keep improving. For example starting to learn how to trail brake to get the car turned in correctly. The car just keeps giving the more you push and is never snappy. They are a bit marmite the 996 GT3s but I think are very sensitive to set-up. After some time with the car I've come to the realisation that it's difficult to get a perfect balance between road and track set up. Not like the more modern GT pork which can do both well.
