Yep the 'bobbing front end' trait of the 997 very reminiscant of older 911s but entirely in character.

Lost on the 991 of course but perhaps no bad thing on newer cars.

That's an interesting comment. I moved from 996 Targa to 997C2S to 997GTS. The difference from 996 to 997 is like night and day! 996 certainly did have the bobbing front end and, for me, the single biggest difference with the 997 was the lack of the bobbing front end. Haven't spent much time in a 991, and none in a 992, but I don't recognise the 997 as having bobbing front end...........

Seen a couple of these lately and look to be lovely cars versus later generations.

Did get me thinking about stretching the budget and looking into the rwd variant.

Not many for sale and values seem to be a bit all over the place with the usual plethora of VERY high owner cars?

Most cars seem to be PDK - assuming this works well what other spec is deemed attractive?

The threads I have seen over the usual forums suggest these are great cars but haven’t spotted much recent chat on here.

To those in ‘the know’ what cars look attractive at the moment? Dare I ask on the subject of future residuals?!
I have one. The sweet spot of the 911 in my opinion.

Had a Hunter 4 wheel geo recently and this appeared to lessen the effect but irrespective of this the 997 Carreras including GTS understandably have a less planted front end than the 991 not least because the engine in the 991 is located further forward.

Great thread.

Currently looking at upgrading from my 987.2 CS and lot of options out there. £45-50k budget, looking at CGTS and C4GTS, leaning towards cabs over coupe (sacrilege I know).

Will be my first 911, few on the market currently, anything to be aware of in difference in driving?

Also what look out for besides the usual OPC inspection etc?

Personally would avoid the C4 unless you really need the extra grip in winter. A Cab is heavy enough as it is...adding 4wd will make it the heaviest car you could specify.

....and arguably the cab. The 997 coupe is such a perfect car.

I'm an enthusiast and still went against all of the usual PH advice a few years ago by getting myself a 4 GTS Cab PDK. Full leather interior (no alcantara).

It had 24k miles then, I've more than doubled that since which must have wiped out some £15k in depreciation.

I regret none of it (and I'm not a wealthy person, saved for years). Been to Italy twice, Portugal once, two trips round Scotland etc. hasn't missed a beat. Super comfortable, great mile muncher on the boring bits, lovely sound with the roof down.

My advice? Drive a few. If you get on with the PDK and enjoy open air motoring, nothing wrong with that.

Only mod was a centre silencer bypass which I cannot recommend enough to any 997.2 owner. And only upgrade was a cheap £15 bluetooth receiver so I could stream Spotify. Otherwise this 2011 car feels to me as modern as I can possibly want a car to be in 2020.

Depends which generation of 997 is being referred to: 997.1 had a bobbing front end. 997.2 had revised front suspension, and lost the bobbing front end as a result.

I'm selling mine, it's my 6th Porsche and the best 911 I've ever had, absolutely fantastic cars.

I'm selling because I just don't use it now....

Were 997 GTSs built in the same range of colours as the rest of the range, or were they limited to certain colours? Does anyone know of any PTS GTSs in the UK?

It's a good question, and one I've never considered.

You see most white (recession white).
Then black.

But I have seen

Speed yellow.
Metallic blue
Grey
Guards red.
Silver (two types)

Believe it or not Ipanema Blue was a standard colour I believe

Silver was either Platinum Silver or GT Silver.
Have also seen one Amethyst car.

Looks very nice in that photo.

It was a time of restrained colours yet contemporary GT3s came in all sorts! I would be tempted by an unusual colour GTS, as the packaging otherwise was so good also.

Now I come to think of it, there was an Ipanema GTS 4 knocking about an OPC in Scotland a few years ago.

Love that Ipanema Blue.

As an exercise I just went on mobile.de as the biggest aggregator of currently available 997 GTSs. Of 70 cars currently for sale on the platform (most in Germany), 64 are silver (various shades of), grey or black, five are red, and one is dark blue (dunkelblau, it doesn’t say exactly which shade).

Nothing in Ipanema, any of the GT3 RS funky colours, or PTS.

What do people think of this one? I’m going to go back for another look / test drive.

Also i’m conscious it’s quite a small market, what would be a good deal price wise? Car is SOR.

I have one almost idetical. It's brilliant and generally well received by the public at large.

No bugbears. The PDK is fine. It's not as fast as later 'boxes but smooth and fast enough.
