So this is the same guy in a 991.2 GT3 Touring. Go to 21.06. Which sounds better 992 or 991? For me it's no contest the old car sounds better. In isolation the 992 sounds fantastic but next to the old car? Well, I'm another one that remains to be convinced.https://youtu.be/jGlMH4c4DHs

I'm expecting Chris to say the new car is great in his review but he will keep his 991.2 in his own garage...https://youtu.be/jGlMH4c4DHs

I don't think we will get too much honesty in the video reviews as they're largely to entertain. It's really just down to the sound and the looks though as it'll otherwise be fantastic. Still potentially the most desirable new car on sale for me. Iirc I think Evo were quite honest about the 718 GT4 being less characterful than its predecessor. Expecting a similar assessment for the 992. I see no reason whatsoever to upgrade minebrowngt3 said:

Morning B I agree on what you say re the video reviews they might be slightly entertaining for some but many including myself find the majority of them shallow, shouty and somewhat cringeworthy.Interesting what you say about the 718 GT4 yes it may be slightly less characterful than the 981 in some ways...slightly quieter exhaust (but more induction noises), clutch too light etc but at least it now has a proper Porsche GT engine which is much more powerful and stronger than the strangled and detuned C2S engine in the 981 and also now has a much higher and useful 8100 rev limit.
In this sense it has moved the game as is the norm with a new Porsche GT particularly with the all important engine whereas in contrast the 992 GT3 retains the existing admittedly fantastic and truly masterful 991.2 GT3 engine with very little power increase and virtually no changes whatsoever other than itbs which has actually resulted in slower performance figures up to 125mph.
It will be interesting to see how the incresed aero and specifically the new dw front suspension could possibly translate to any improvement and overall net benefit for most GT3 drivers especially bearing in mind the much higher price ££ of the new car.

Morning Av, good points about the 718GT4. Only heard the engine in video reviews. Funny thing though, the Boxster GTS 4.0 in Harry's Garage sounded amazing whereas the 718 in every video I have seen sounds flat. Odd when the GTS is slightly detuned. Having said that the GT4 put on a good show by eclipsing the new BMW M4 round Castle Combe with Jason Plato. However, I would imagine that gaping black hole in the Beemer's grille slowed it down by many minutes
So whatever we say about the 992 at least Porsche haven't committed grievous self harm like BMW!
There is no doubt in my mind that the new car will be exceptional. This is Porsche after all, and the GT3 is their halo motorsport sportscar publicity vehicle. It's their window to the world for what they can achieve, and it will be amazing. Whilst it will be the best that Porsche can achieve, certain shifts in what is possible today (compared with 4 years ago) are likely in my opinion to result in a slightly different character to the previous cars.
The media reviews will of course be glowing and rightly so.
Having said that i have no appetite to 'upgrade' to the 'superior' new model. The reasons why have been done to death here i am sure, but i am happy with my current 991.2 GT3 touring. To me it's the sweet spot.
To those who are getting one, or hoping to get one, i say enjoy. To those that prefer to stick with their current steeds i get it. The choice is wonderful, so thank you Porsche.

Harris's recent proclamations about where the GT3 high watermark lies make the 991.2 GT3 manual (and in particular the Touring) and the 997.2 GT3 RS the go-to models. You can see that in the swiftness of the sales of these cars and also the asking prices.
Hi Digga, yes I must admit I'm somewhat surprised at the strength of the used GT3 market. Even taking into account seasonal factors. Its not just GT cars either. My Dad has just bought a Macan GTS. I'm not normally a fan of SUVs but it is a lovely thing. However, I believe it was 4th time lucky as cars he was interested in were even selling while he was on the phone to the SR. He chopped in his 981 Cayman and that sold in days! browngt3 said:

Yep shame really looks like BMW have lost the plot particularly re styling and huge weight gains both driven by their all important Asian markets where aggressive styling sells.Having said that the GT4 put on a good show by eclipsing the new BMW M4 round Castle Combe with Jason Plato. Whatever next for BMW I wonder:

Forgive the slight topic drift, but that isn’t quite what evo said - they said driving slowly it is more refined but drive it harder and you appreciate that Porsche have moved the game on (as always) and the 718 highlighted flaws in the 981 they hadn’t previously seen. I’ve only driven the 718 GT4 so can’t say (and why would you take my opinion even if I had driven both!) but I agree this sounded like a fairly honest review to me.

Moot. It's pretty well accepted that a road car that goes well at the 'Ring is going to work extremely well both on road or any other circuit. That is why it's such a benchmark - the variety of turns is a pretty good test.
In fact, if you were to pick a UK circuit closest to the 'Ring, arguably Oulton is one of the prime candidates. Most different would almost certainly be Silverstone GP circuit.
Harris has already gone on record saying word to the effect of:
The GT3 horsepower war passed beyond what most road/trackday drivers could use ages ago.
In his personal opinion, the high-water mark for the GT3 was either the 997.2 Rs or 991.2 GT3 manual.
I AM SORRY THIS IS NOT CORRECT, THE RING IS ABOUT FLOWING CORNERS AND CARRYING CORNER SPEEDS IN EXCESS OF 120MPH WHERE THE NEW HIGHER LEVELS OF DOWNFORCE WILL HELP, BUT AT OULTON PARK YOU WILL NOT DO MORE THAN 70MPH AROUND MOST CORNERS AND THE FASTEST YOU WILL GO DOWN THE STRAIGHT IS 130MPH. AT ANGLESEY IT IS EVEN WORSE, MOST CORNERS YOU DO NOT GET UP TO 50 MPH ON CHURCH THE FASTEST CORNER ON THE TRACK I ONLY RECORD A PEAK SPEED OF 86MPH. SO I STAND BY WHAT I SAY A CAR DESIGNED FOR THE RING IS NOT NECESSARILY GOING TO BE FASTER AROUND A UK TRACK. BUT LETS SEE, 20TH APRIL IS THE DATE FOR THE RELEASE OF PRESS EMBARGO. IT MAKES IT ALL VERY INTERESTING. MY BET IS THERE WILL BE NO LAP TIME IMPROVEMENT AS LONG AS THEY USE THE SAME NON R CUP 2 TYRES.
