I doubt whether the new 992 touring will have the same spring rate as no aero. You prob have seen the huge diff in aero on the 992 gt3 than the .2 gt3, the 992 will have much more stiffer springs than the .2 to make it work. You wont get the best of both worlds , its one or the other. It will be how acceptable it is for the road which is all about the GT3.
I'm not really sure why aero constantly gets imbued with the ability to be the reason for any change in modern cars these days.

The 992 gt3 has at maximum speed perhaps 200kg more downforce (i don't exactly remember and the exact number is irrelevant) than 991.2 gt3. that is in context of a ~1500kg car (without driver and luggage). The springs have to be able to support the weight of the car at full capacity and full speed. How exactly is all this 'huge diff in aero on the 992 gt3' the main reason for the stiffer springs when the spring rate has supposedly increased by almost double what it used to be given the overall vertical forces on the car will only have increased by 10% (at most)......?

The difference in spring rates is going to be related to wanting the car to have different vehicle dynamics - there has been a clear shift in the way Porsche GT want to setup their cars since the 991.2rs (slightly more downforce than the 991.1, very different spring rates). That change has now come through to the standard gt3.
Matt Farah on his latest Smoking Tire podcast has Dan Prosser as a guest....in a brief segment discussing the GT3 he says he’s been told that the Touring will have the same suspension set up. Don’t forget the Touring will still have the standard 992 rear spoiler which I assume does actually do something and the front end will be the same....so you’re just talking the difference between the aero of the GT3 spoiler and the deployed standard spoiler.

They also talk about how Porsche wanted to position the GT3 as harder edged car given how capable the standard cars are and the fact that the Turbo S has a harder edge to it.

That article was completely wrong in that claim. it mixed up downforce at maximum speed with that figure at 124mph. there is as I said zero chance it produces 385kg of downforce at 124mph.
If that very far fetched figure was indeed correct then it translates into a totally unbelievable 847Kg downforce at v max.

Off topic Taffy , but we were comparing my 996 RS with Paul;s 997 RSR on Thursday ....my rear tyres were 280 wide and the 997 were 315 on the fronts ..... let alone the huge change in downforce

Having witnessed your driving i think you'd be PDQ in a wheelbarrow let alone a Porsche RS of any vintage.

For those interested the manual 992 GT3 is tested in both Car and Top Gear mags although both tests don't really tell us much we don't know already.

Rebuilt with a higher downforce nose and splitter which dialled out the understeer ......so Craner was fun , and nearly flat . Great to see you

I thought they were the 918 buckets, but the review mentions them being wider than the previous version, and there is also a reference to the Veryon seats?

That' because they have to appease the ever fattening greedy flippers.

They are evidently a slightly different design to the 991.2 fixed buckets. 718 GT4 buckets also feel different.

I have the latest ones in my Turbo S, they don’t feel any different to sit in compared with the 918 seats in my GT3’s. There is a slightly different design around the shoulder area, they are square cut rather than rounded. I’m slim and they hug well.

Do you think the seats are ok if you are ‘powerfully built’?

I don’t think there will be an issue. They are certainly not racing tight, just a decent snug hold.

I have done a fair few miles in previous cars with bucket seats and had friends in the car who are big guys and they haven’t complained or even mentioned the fit.

Post Covid I'm a fair bit more powerfully built than I used to be. 185cm & 107kg (6'1" & 17 stone) and I can still fit in the 918 style buckets and find them comfortable. Getting in and out of them isn't particularly dignified but once there they are fine.

Climbing in and out of those buckets is best avoided in public, unless you enjoy looking like a drunk epileptic.

I’m still holding out for the folding buckets to be offered on the 992 GT3, making the car much more usable for longer trips away.
