Hi Guys. I picked up my GT3 today from my dealer 400km away. Haven't had much of a chance to experience the performance or dynamics yet as it was a straight through drive on a boring arterial route to get home, but have to say Im very pleased with it so far...

However I left the Owners Manual at the dealers by accident so have a quick question for those with the car. Is it keyless entry? I cant seem to get that to work. Its keyless start but that seems pintless without keyless entry.....
It’s not keyless entry. Keyless start though.

I have to say White really makes the 992GT3 pop. I think the colour suits the less pretty but more Motorsport look of the 992GT3 more than the 991GT3. With the Black rims contrasting looks like a really track focused car as opposed to one for cruising slowly along King's Road.

Very nice!

From memory, keyless entry was a c. £700 option?

Thanks Guys. Dealer put me wrong. Been trying to figure it out forever.

There is no keyless entry option for GT3 on the NZ configurator that I can see....

How crazy is keyless start without keyless entry? You have to take the key out of your pocket to open the door. So wouldn't it be better to have a place to put it after (i.e. om a hole in the dash?). Cant have cost much extra to do this nor taken any weight.

Guess its my first complaint then.

Thanks for the compliments on white. All my past GT3's have been white. They have all been used as track cars , very little else. White does look very good in the flesh (much better than these pictures honestly) but white with black wheels does not photograph well as all the contrast and details disappear (wheel spokes, swage lines, body work curves and vents etc).

My main reason for white (would have loved a PTS like signal orange) is ease of care. The primer on these cars is white so when you get stone chips they dont show. White is very easy to touch up and repair and easy to get a shine on and it hides swirls. For a track car this makes life so much easier.

Black wheels are the opposite. However Ive had all three options previously (silver, titanium, black).

But here is the sad truth of it. For my neighbours, staff, business acquaintances this car looks just like the last 2. In a small community and owning a business in a heavily Covid impacted industry (tourism - heavily reliant on international!) this simply want the time to be breaking out of the boring white mold. To be honest, if it werent for a significant nonrefunable deposit arrangement made in Sept 2019 before the Pandemic this car simply wouldnt be in my garage so Im feeling really lucky just to beable to own one right now (my bank manage not feeling the same way ha ha).

Some other observations after cleaning the car from its first trip today.

Some may like the new wheel design but its a thorough PITA to clean. Too many small indentations and crevices. If you thought the 991.1/2 GT3/RS ones were a chore you will not find these fun LOL!

The black plastic front air damn was a godsend for track guys. On the 991.2 GT3 the painted front lower facia got chipped up real bad from track work and fast back road driving. With this one you wont see the marks (just use some armourall or similar to make it dark again - peanut oil is cheap and works best). The part is easily replaced and not overly expensive (and doesn't require a paint shop or putting PPF back over once its painted).

The car has better break away angles than the 991.2 GT3. With lift its higher (maybe 10mm) and the diffuser at the rear being properly integrated sits ultimately higher off the ground and wont drag as easily. My driveway is a good test,. The Alfa QV makes it through with care but the 991.2 GT3 used to scrape its front spoiler slightly and sometimes the rear diffuser if lift was on when re entering the driveway. The Geofencing for the lift function is great too - hit save when you use it and it will lift the nose every time you enter the driveway...

The car like all 911s is a stone magnet....

The side rear quarter glass is cornell (gorilla glass) and thing but very brittle. Dont apply undue pressure of it will crack.

The front window screen is thinner glass and the glass is unique to the GT3 so a 992 onbe cannot be used for replacement. I elected to have a new type of protective film put over the window as our roads are dirty and the track throw's up stones - Ive never owned a car of any type that doesn't at any one time have at least one stone crack - and the insurance companies are charging excess now over a certain replacement cost here. The film I believe is a US product by STEK. Very difficult to install and bets done on factory fresh glass. I took three stones on the way home and no cracks so I guess its doing its job but looking after it will be a PITA and I have to say the optical clarity is compromised. That said I have a long track tour planned (10 days) early next year and with the difficulty in getting a quick replacement screen I think Ill live with this for a while. Its impossible to see if from the outside of the car.

The rear lower bumper has all sorts of stuff going on including a small plinth above the exhausts which looks like an afterthought (they probably realized too late teh heat at the track was melting the bumper!). No doubt all this detail stuff will be sorted with 992.2...

If you are a tight ass like me (well we do pay around 45K GBP more for a GT3 here than UK - and no there are zero taxies and duties so its mostly "porsche importer tax") then here are a few ideas:

1). My roof isnt carbon. However every "car guy" thats looked at it has instantly assumed I paid the $7000 NZD for the carbon option - even after close inspection! Its STEK carbon gloss vinyl. The quality of these films now is unbelievable - the weave is three dimensional and realistic. Ive owned various cars with real CF. I swore never again. They use a gel coat - its soft not hard like lacquer. At least down here the UV makes it porous. Bee poop, tree sap and bird sh*t leaves permanent marks if left on even a day or two. Its a PITA to look after. I can replace this film 10 times for the cost of the carbon option!

2). Dont pay 200 pounds for a coloured key cover. I bought these from Ebay for $15USD. They are impossible to tell from the real thing. The dealer was impressed (and now has some on the way LOL).

3). Vinyl door GT3 decal for $200 GBP! Are you mad? $25 quid at the local print shop got me 12 x quality cut vinyl decals. Easy to apply and replace when tatty.

Silver stitching looks nice. Why pay 1000 GBP for red?

Porsche still have not figured out to cut the passenger floor mat for the Clubsport package to work around the fire extinguisher. Yet again the mat doesn't fit without modification!

PCM. What is Porsche Connect and should I care? I havent got a manual and given up trying to figure what networks to join the car to and even why I would bother. The car has more tech than I need and its not iPhone easy. Im obviously getting old...

Driving impressions so far very limited due to a single 400km main road jaunt. The car feels tight. The steering rack is quicker. The front feels very planted. The car sounds similar told the previous one from inside but the gear shifts a bit smoother/less agricultural - but honestly I always thought the PDK was way too smooth to give emotion - I like a kick in the back when I shift (think old single clutch Feza 360 Stradale or 430 Scuderia F1 box). Its even smoother now which will work fine on the track. I went manual last time PDK this time.

With clubsport pack there is still an issue with rear springs sending a clang up the cage. Apparently they forgot to put the rubber hose over the top of the springs like the warranty fix last time so I expect new springs will be in order down the line.

I like the new dash. It gives me what I need on one screen. Cant yse the 5 dial array tho because two of the dials get hidden! Luckily there is an alternative display that works well. The interior has been built to a lower budget than before. The Sportex stuff isnt as thick or durable feeling as alcantera. The buttons feel a bit cheap. Its definitely not quite as solid as before but the dash layout works fine and I like there is a ledge to use to rest your hand when touching the PCM screen. I cant comment on sound system. I have standard. You cant hear anything proper over chip seal with those tyres at speed in any case so it was a moot point for me.

Seating position is fractionally lower than before. Bucket Seats feel just the same (incline and comfort). Cage has different bracing but otherwise seems similar to before.

I did not find the ride any worse than 991.2 GT3. Infact in normal suspension setting its possible a little better resolved (new saches dampers same as I have in Alfa QV and very good). Tyres are wider so possible a bit more road noise.

Car looks much better in flash than on youtube and web pictures. Rear almost looks' acceptable in the real. Front fenders nice and muscular now.

Sports exhaust button seems to make a difference (for me). However if its like the last few iterations Im sure it will stop working reliably after a few track days ha ha.

Thats about all I can think for now. Whats with keyless start but no entry tho? Someone at PAG needs a head check...

On closer inspection, I can't see 'Comfort access' on my original spec or the current UK configurator, so either it's standard or it's not available. Those already with cars should hopefully confirm.

What a great first impressions write up. Subjective i know but White for me is 100% best colour for the 992GT3. Is it standard white or the extra cost option Carrera white.?

Hi Taffy. Yes, surprisingly white works well on the 992 GT3 and with the black contrasting trim seems to suit "motorsport" quite well. My outgoing 991.2 GT3 was infact the ex UK press car featured on many reviews (including "why manual matters" by Catchpole) so was an almost identical colour combination although that car came with the yellow calipers (PCCB) and red stitching.

It is the standard solid white C9A. Metallics are more difficult to touch up Ive found and I think solid or flat colours seem to sit more naturally in the motorsport mould.

My total options cost was less than 6000 GBP. Clubsport option with red belts, and black wheels. That is all. We get the parking sensors/camera, rear dipping mirror/rain sensor and lift kit as standard in NZ (but as I say pay around 45K GBP more for the car!).

Add to that around 350 GBP for STEK carbon gloss black film for the roof and around 50 GBP for the side decals and 2 x white key fobs. There was also the paint correction, PPF, Window screen film and ceramic coating but I negotiated most of those as gratis with the dealer...

The car has far more presence than I was expecting from online reviews. It has over exceeded in that regard. In terms of driving, sound, performance and handling what limited experience I have so far would suggest that the reviews are most likely accurate. I will elaborate more once I have the break in KMs completed, dome decent back road seat time and a track day under my belt - all within the next 4-5 weeks....

I will say that if you are not a track junkie like myself and you already own a 991.2 GT3/RS in a spec you like then I dont think it would be worth the upcharge unless you have to have the latest trinket. The 991.2 GT3 is all you need and more for weekend drives and general ownership satisfaction. Few people will get the full benefits of the 992 GT3 revisions and even then, mostly only on the track. My outgoing 991.2 GT3 was purchased second hand and when I sold it had covered over 25,000 miles and done approx 25 track days so I felt I had extracted what I needed from it and it was time to move on before large ticket maintence item became a thing (PCCB, paint repairs, CL wheel hardware component lifing etc).

I had actually been wondering what happened to this car since it’s left the press fleet.
No longer on these shores explains it!

Python green 992 GT3 on Ecclesall Road, Sheffield earlier this week. 911 private plate, silver alloys and steel brakes. Parked outside Lost and Found bar, it’s often there so will get pics if I get chance! Lovely spec if anyone on here!
